Best New England history I have ever read; great testimony to Eastern white pines of New England!
As a 100% tree geek, forest lover, and proud native New "Englandah", I have to say that White Pine is the best New England history I have ever read--and the best testimony to our beautiful Eastern white pines and their forest cousins that I have ever read. I have been researching the history of our New England forests for almost two decades, and this book was more comprehensive than anything I had read, as it tied the Revolutionary War and our Independence to the white pines themselves--facts that that make me even prouder of our forests and to be a New Englander. Vietze highlights a modern, present day company, Maine Heritage Timber that is salvaging the devastating waste of ancient, old growth timber that was lost at the bottom of rivers. This book brings readers from pre-Colonial forests to the modern era.

Great essay on the pivotal role of the white pine in American history
Everyone knows the basic battles and moments of early American history that is taught in school. This essay brings to light a piece of the 'revolutionary' puzzle that is rarely talked about in your average teachings about American history. Really fascinating and informative. Especially interesting if you hale from New England.

Great Tree Book
Had been on a recent kick on reading books about different trees. This was a really fun read and believe that anyone interested in trees, history, and even business/economics would get an enjoyable read from this book.

Very interesting tale about the white pine trees that once covered large parts of North America.
Well written and very informative. Gave me a much better perspective of the role this tree during the colonial period. I wish more of these magnificent trees were still around today. They were the East Coasts Redwoods.
