From Disney and creative genius Tim Burton comes THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, a fun-filled musical fantasy of Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, who discovers the joy of Christmas Town and decides to fill Santa's boots -- with hilarious results. Featuring a marvelous mix of characters and 11 ghoulishly captivating songs by Danny Elfman -- it's frightful fun for the whole family!|THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS is the first full-length stop-motion animated film ever created.|The movie contains more than 227 animated characters.|Santa Claus' head has more than 50 different working parts, and Jack has more than 400 separate interchangeable heads, each handcrafted with a different facial expression.|The smallest working puppet in the movie is a doll from the "real world" Jack visits that is only one inch long.|Sally is wearing a real miniature dress laid on top of foam latex so that the fabric doesn't move too much on screen.|At the height of production, the animators produced only 70 seconds of finished film per week.|To create Halloweentown's twisted look, the design artists often made their sketches using their nondrawing hand. Review: The Nightmare before Christmas - An absolute classic Review: The Nightmare Before Christmas [Blu-ray + DVD] - I have always been a fan of many of Tim Burton's films and his artwork / visual style; that's what I admire so much in this film is not just the highly imaginative story and original artistry in sculpting / drawing the characters and locations, but the stop-motion film making process, which is credit to the director Henry Selick and his production team also. Burton's eclectic mix of styles is recognisable immediately with influences of: german expressionism, hammer horror, universal horror, Dr. Seuss artwork and the story of the outsider trying to fit in and eventually accepting or being accepted for who he is as a person. Danny Elfman's score and musical numbers are of course genius and perfectly suited for the film, which stands alone as a great score in it's own right; the film would not be the same without it (comes in 7.1 surround sound on this blu-ray). Overall I would highly recommend buying this film in Blu-ray, there are a good deal of interesting special features available such as: documentaries, deleted scenes and original early short films by Tim Burton such as 'Vincent' and 'Frankenweenie'. The transfer looks and sounds stunning and as expected the film has never looked or sounded so bright, crisp, detailed and colourful - it looks 3D even in 2D!

A festive treat.
is a 1993 American stop-motion animated musical dark fantasy film directed by Henry Selick in his feature directorial debut and produced and conceived by Tim Burton. It tells the story of Jack Skellington, the King of "Halloween Town", who stumbles upon "Christmas Town" and schemes to take over the holiday. Danny Elfman wrote the songs and score and provided the singing voice of Jack. The principal voice cast includes Chris Sarandon, Catherine O'Hara, William Hickey, Ken Page, Paul Reubens, Glenn Shadix, and Ed Ivory. The Nightmare Before Christmas originated from a poem written by Burton in 1982 while he was working as an animator at Walt Disney Productions. With the critical success of Vincent that same year, Burton began to consider developing the film as either a short film or a half-hour television special, to no avail. Over the years, Burton's thoughts regularly returned to the project, and, in 1990, he made a development deal with Walt Disney Studios. Production started in July 1991 in San Francisco; Disney initially released the film through the Touchstone Pictures label because the studio believed the film would be "too dark and scary for kids". The Nightmare Before Christmas premiered at the New York Film Festival on October 9, 1993, and was given a limited release on October 13, before its wide theatrical release on October 29. The film was met with commercial and critical success upon release, earning praise for its animation, particularly the innovation of stop-motion as an art form, as well as its characters, songs, and score. While initially a modest box office hit, it has since garnered a large cult following and is widely regarded as one of the greatest animated films of all time. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, a first for an animated film, but lost to Jurassic Park. One of my Christmas go to movies and it will get you singing along.

Best quality Jack yet!
The re-mastering looks great in high-def and the sound is great too, with depth and detail to the music, singing and voices. There are also plenty of extras for the film buffs & Burton fans. What a coincidence that it's been released just before Halloween! Having said that it works as a Christmas movie too as the people of Christmas Town are also involved, though I won't say any more as I don't want to give the story away for those that don't know it... If you haven't seen it and like animated movies this one is a classic and should be in your collection; it is truly both original and magical. Enjoy!

The early 90's was a great time for film and animation, especially for Walt Disney Studios, who were experiencing a renaissance in terms of quality and popularity. Another giant at the time was Tim Burton, a star director who directed both the Batman films as well as Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands. Tim Burton has a unique vision and an ability to materialize his colorful personality better than most other film makers are cable of. From the very beginning, the idea of Tim Burton and Disney collaborating on a stop-motion animation film and its a match made in heaven. Add score master Danny Elfman to write the music, and you've got history in the making! The film opens with a brilliant song called 'This is Halloween', that establishes the setting and many of the major characters as they prepare to celebrate their yearly ritual of Halloween. They live in Halloweentown, so Halloween is kind of a big deal for them. They all go bananas when their pumpkin master Jack Skelington rolls onto the scene sporting a flaming pumpkin. He gives a spectacular show and everybody loves him, but in classic Disney style our hero is riddled with inner turmoil, longing for something new instead of the same ritual year by year. He wanders off and discovers a new holiday, Christmas! Jack falls in love with the jolly spirit of Christmas as a contradiction to his normal life and attempts to make the next Christmas the best one ever, though it doesn't exactly go the way he plans. The film is filled with catchy and memorable songs that will definitely tempt you to sing along (even in a crowded theater). Some of my personal favorite tracks from the movie are 'Jack's Lament', the town meeting song, and 'Making Christmas'. The songs are so memorable and iconic that there even exists a tribute album entirely dedicated to them, and it's pretty good too! Although it doesn't hold a candle to the originals by Danny Elfman, that man is a genius. Stop-motion animation was an excellent choice because it gives the film a very unique, life-like look. The animators put many man-hours into making the film frame-by-frame, and their dedication shows in the attention to detail. The amount of detail and care given to smooth out the movements really makes everything look a lot more realistic than most traditionally animated films. Tim Burton's twisted and dark imagination comes to life in the most fantastic of ways in Halloweentown, populated by a whole bunch of weird and wacky monsters who are honestly more lovable than scary (until they bite your face off). There is a lot of humor in this movie, which I really appreciate because it helps keep things interesting. One of the most hilarious characters in the movie is the Mayor, who switches between his confident face and nervous face to wacky results. Another favorite of mine is the Oogey Boogey Man. That guy used to crack me up as a kid. I have to admit, though, his ending part really used to freak me out. I've seen this movie three times in movie theaters when it was rereleased in 3d. It has remained a favorite of mine since I was a little kid and had it on VHS. For some reason it became a trendy, hot topic sort of thing and got super popular, but to me its not a fashion trend its a great animated movie!

Making-Of, einige Produktionsentwürfe sowie diverse geschnitte Szenen.
