simple and elegant console cable that works with Mac and PC
this cable works quite well to connect to a networking device to get console access. I used this with my Juniper SRX240 router to connect to my Macbook. It's plug and play, no drivers required. Just find the correct device 'ls /dev/tty.usb*', then use 'screen' with the device and bam, console access. I've also tried with a Windows laptop (newer ones don't come with serial port anymore) and it works well. You can use the Device Manager and view the 'Ports' to figure out which port is assigned to it... then use putty (free download) and connect to that COM port.

Love this cable
This cable is awesome. Works with all the devices I do. Had to find it in device manager in windows 10 and click install drivers. I thought/hoped it would do that but not a big deal. Doesn’t take up much room in my laptop bag so I can bring it with me everywhere.

Careful if your going to use this outdoors!!!
I have 8 of these all over my house. Pretty much a set of two for each "security essential door" in my house. Hey work great and pretty self explanatory to set up. You would need to have or have your own access control unit for you to set this up correctly to correspond to your code inputs or RFID tags for personnel entry and exit. You would choose to set it up so that each door only has one keypad for entry and a push button for the exit. It's completely up to you.The only reason why this couldn't be a 5 star review is because I have noticed that on the back of the unit where the wire enters the assembly and also where the manufacture uses from "hardened silicone sealant or some sort) to completely enclose the enterior components of the board making it water resistant. But I have noticed that the part where he silicone and wire joins the unit is extremely fragile. If you bend the wire too much it will crack the sealant allowing water to get into the reader then making it go beeping crazy as the connections are shorting out, from my experience.A good way to reinforce that and prevent it from happening is that I use a little liquid electrical tape and put a nice thick dab all around the wire entrance and allowing the liquid tape to fully dry before trying to install the keypad is crucial. If you try to install it too soon then the liquid rape wouldn't have solidified enough yet which then you would most likely end up with leaks f your planning to expose this to the elements.

Mac ! No drivers required
Works from Mac - no drivers required - terminal application - connected to firewall console port.don't plug in yet. Open terminal.cd .. (a few times); thencd /devls (look at the list of serial devices)plug cable inls (look for the new device) (in my case was: tty.usbserial-AL00LM3G )screen /dev/tty.usbserial-AL00LM3G 9600

Does exactly what it says on the tin
If you don't need to talk to the console serial port of a Cisco router or any equipment that follows their wiring standard, then you don't need this cable. But if you do need to reach a router's console from any PC made in the last decade with only USB ports, this is exactly what you need. I use it to reach the console of my Ubiquity Edge Router Lite.Aside from the 8P8C (aka RJ45) connector with Cisco Console wiring (sometimes called a "crossover cable" for no good reason) this is an ordinary FTDI serial cable with RS-232 signals. The chip is solid as expected from FTDI. The wires work. It is long enough to reach for typical uses.Good product. Would buy again and certainly would recommend. But only if you need this specialized cable, as it really isn't good for anything else!

Works like it should.
This works natively in Windows and Linux. I have it for use in a home networking lab to console port into my Cisco gear. It works in PuTTY with the prior settings. I've tested it up to 115,200 boss with no issue.

Works great after you load the drivers.
It works great once the drivers are installed. I have used this on about 10 different machines, both Windows 10 and Windows 7. Some of them found the drivers right away. For others I had to go to the ftdichip.com website to download the correct drivers. But once you do that, these things are incredible.

This product works great as longs as you can find the right drivers
This product works great as longs as you can find the right drivers. Keep looking through these reviews as one person shared the link in his review. Otherwise this does not work (out-of-the-box) with any PC that I've tried.

No drivers required w10/Mac
Mac Mojave: Plugged into Mac and nothing. No tty.usb* device found in /dev. Had to remove previous drivers "rm -f /Library/Extensions/FTDI*" to allow the Apple's builtin FTDI driver to load. Once I did that and rebooted the Mac, plugged it in, immediately /dev/tty.usb* appeared. Used switch /dev/tty.usb* to talk to it, perfect. No other drivers needed.Windows 10: Plugged in, said configuring new device. When it was finished.. it was done. No driver needed.Would recommend to a friend.
