Seems to be a good translation
I love the translation. Augustine's prayers are so heartfelt and moving.

Beautiful little book.
This book is gorgeous. The cover is either leather or leather-like. The print is a little small, so if you need large print I wouldn’t suggest this. I can’t wait to read it.

Confessions of an extremely curious man
Augustine is known for saying “not yet,” after asking God to deliver him from his temptations. Also famous is the story of his conversion to Christianity, prompted by the voice of a mysterious child in the garden. His conversion was the end result of a deep and passionate desire to understand the world. He thought Christianity would provide the answers. In another life and another time, he could well have chosen to be a scientist. He observes the physical world minutely. He questions things that people take for granted, such as the notion of time, and the paradox of a duration in time when all we can experience is an instant of “now”. He tries to understand the working of memory, and what it means to remember to forget. Ultimately, he is not able to answer most of the questions he raises, some of which remain mysteries till this day. But the clarity of Augustine’s mind, his inquisitiveness, his deep reflection is apparent throughout this book. It is clear that we are present before a profound mind, and we feel humbled by it, just as Augustine was humbled before his beloved Lord.

Great appearance, great translation, great price!
First off, the cover of this book is great. The material feels like that of a leather bible and appears to be durable. The edge of the pages are painted gold like you might see on some Bibles. My renter picked it up yesterday and asked me what kind of bible he shod get thinking that this book was a bible. The book itself has been translated well to make it readable for people who are among my generation. It is not easy to read by nature due to the complexity of St. Augustine, but the translation helps reduce the processing time it would otherwise would have taken me. I have not owned other versions of Confessions but hace skimmed through an old version. This is much nicer looking and much easier to read!On top of it all, the book only cost me ~12$!

A Beautiful Product
This is a beautiful product, both inside and out. I had an older copy I read and gave away. This copy which I am rereading again is much nicer. Regular sized print instead of very small and hard to read. The construction looks very durable as well. Thank you for making a high-quality product which should last a very long time!!

Inspiring but Difficult to Read
I purchased The Confessions of St. Augustine for my kindle. I'm glad I read it - or tried to. Parts of it were very difficult for me to understand. However, I did find some inspiring words tucked between the difficult passages. This book would be wonderful for someone more scholarly than I. If it were ever translated into a "The Confessions of St. Augustine for Dummies," I'm sure I'd get more out of it.

Tough read
Bought this out of curiosity. It is a tough read, and very repetitive; however, if I ignore that I can find the message contained within. Helps me realize I am not that much different from Augustine in my life and acts.

Great quality cover and deep read
Note that the translator of this Confessions is Catholic, I hadn't noticed at purchase, but reading with my friend who had a Protestant translation, we only noted a slight theological difference with penance/repentance at one point halfway through the book. Aware of that difference, I would still buy this version again for the cool cover & gold edged pages. Especially as this writer included the verses referenced by Augustine in parenthesis so you can see that Augustine almost breathed Scripture as he spoke, which my friend missed out on in her version. As far as content, Confessions is a classic. Thick, deep, theological, philosophical. It is written as a prayer to God about his life and thoughts on things. The first autobiography ever written. It was helpful to read with a friend to discuss the ideas out loud each section. It was cool to see the thought patterns and every day life of people during the end of the Roman Empire. Would consider the first half (the autobiography part) a 'living book' for that reason. Also, as a mother, I was encouraged by the witness and testimony of his mother's life, Monica, which is also referenced in the book.

A life changing masterpiece
This book is a life change for me. The chain is birth and death, it represents lust, the Augustine's garden is like Dante's firewall in purgatory where you weep to purify he last sin. It takes quite an effort and labor to get there but without grace you can't image you can even start the journey.I purchased this book as gift for my son entering university.
