de Gournay: Hand-Painted Interiors

This absolutely beautiful book provides detailed and gorgeous photos of the work of the de Gourney wallpaper firm. Photograph are high resolution with rich colors. The rooms pictured with the wall paper highlighted are enchanting. Calling this wallpaper “ wallpaper” , well, it’s way more than that, it’s fantastic hand painted works of art. Purely aspirational, the wallpaper is so expensive it is reserved for the one percent . However, that didn’t stop me from pouring over the book and throughly enjoying the design and artwork in each unique room.The author is the owner and genius behind the company. He describes the opening of China to western capitalism and how he created a thriving business by developing the company using talented Chinese artists.Unfortunately, Mr. Gurney, the de Gournay of the company, has a rather outdated, colonial, patronizing tone while writing about the Chinese. I found it distasteful and a bit tone deaf.The book is printed in Italy And well worth the price for any reader who wants to add to their collection of interior design books.

I gave this book as a gift. My DIL loved it. It is substantial and of high quality. The book if full of inspiring hand painted walls. The book still smelled fresh as if just printed. It was wrapped in a light layer of plastic to keep it from damage. It was packaged well and arrived on time. I would recommend.

I bought this for living room shelves.

This is a beautiful book for styling bookshelves or coffee table.

Very reputable seller, highly recommend: The first book arrived damaged. Seller promptly sent a replacement, no problem, once I returned the damaged book. The book is fantastic, many great pictures and writing about handmade wall coverings in Chinoiserie style.

Book was everything I hoped it would be. Some books are disappointing with poor page and printing quality. This book met my expectations and more… great addition to my coffee table book collection

For the price point, this was a good buy.
