NULL, "The Children's Step-by-Step Cookbook" is the very first complete cookery course for aspiring young cooks, with page after page of mouth-watering dishes. The book features more than fifty easy-to-follow recipes - from snacks and toast treats to pies and party cakes - that are fun to make and delicious to eat. Clear step-by-step photographs show each stage of the recipe as well as all ingredients and utensils. Review: Quality, user-friendly book - This DK cookbook was printed on high-quality glossy paper and illustrated with gorgeous photographs. Each cooking process is broken down into steps, photos and instructions accompany the photos. A child of nine or ten could use the cookbook on his or her own, but younger kids will need adult help. The recipes are tasty, do not include exotic ingredients, take only a few steps to complete, and are appeal to kids and adults. The book includes information on kitchen tools as well as processes. For example, you can learn the difference between dicing something and grating it. All in all, this cookbook makes an excellent choice for a novice cook. Review: Bought for young Granddaughter who has interest in cooking. - This cookbook was purchased as a Christmas gift for a young Granddaughter (6 yrs) who has shown an interest in learning to cook. She had already been helping in the kitchen before receiving cookbook. Her Grandfather is a professional chef and after reviewing many cookbooks chose this one for the detailed yet easy to follow instructions. The nine basic but very important kitchen rules in the beginning of cookbook. Using the oven mitt to show steps that should have parental oversight. Glossary is excellent. Recipes are challenging yet things that children with a rounded appetite should enjoy. Granddaughter lives in another state but parents said she has already made the Cowboy Bake and it was wonderful. Also purchased some Curious Chef kitchen tools which are made for children's smaller hands yet still functional. Had to work harder to find a hardback copy which is what we preferred.

Good Resource, When Not Lost In Translation
Let me first start out by saying that I LOVE the concept of this book and it has worked well so far, but I've found a few things in the book that I would like to bring to the attention of prospective buyers. I bought this book because I wanted to instill a love of cooking into a 7-year-old boy, in the process teaching him valuable life skills instead of forever expecting mother/wifey/girlfriends to do things for him. This is a great starter book because of the step-by-step picture directions, but please realize that kids will not be able to cook much in this book without a ton of help. Why? Because as a foreign book (UK), this follows foreign vernacular and sometimes the pictures do not match what the written directions are showing. For example, this book shows a picture of what looks to be a zucchini and calls it a "courgette." This could be confusing if the child wants to be responsible for picking out items from the produce section of a market in America. Also, on the beef casserole recipe, it has written instructions to set the OVEN to 180C/350F, but then proceeds to give written and picture directions for STOVE TOP cooking. Also, and as expected, this book has a few food items that may be popular in the UK, but are usually not eaten much in the USA, such as a curious item in the "treats" section that looks like fruit cake but is cleverly disguised under the heading of "Biscuit Cake." What are referred to as "pancakes" in this book are commonly called "crepes" in America. All in all, I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to teach a child how to cook real food, and not just grilled cheese sandwiches. But I also recommend that a caregiver has the time available to teach and help with EACH STEP of the cooking process for these recipes, from deciding what to cook all the way through to the end of the meal preparation. This might not be the right book to have if you expect your sixth-grade babysitter to cook dinner alone for the kiddies. But might it be the right book to teach valuable life skills under tutelage that has the time and patience to help out EVERY STEP OF THE WAY? Absolutely.

Great Book for Kids
My daughters (15 & 10) have been cooking with this book for 5 years and they love it. This copy is a gift for a friend who likes to cook. Using this book is a really wonderful way to learn about cooking. It has pictues and explainations of every step of every proceedure, even the most basic. It asumes that you know nothing and builds up from there. Each recipe is fully illustrated and described. Every ingredient and preparation is shown, as is a photo of the completed dish. They can cook without me and feel confident. All I have to do is shop and show them where the tools are!

Shows some signs of wear, and may have some markings on the inside. 100% Money Back Guarantee. Your purchase also supports literacy charities." It didn't say it would arrive smelling really really musty!! But otherwise ok

Amazing Cookbook for Adults AND children !!!
First of all, I agree that adult supervision is needed. Having said that, this is an AMAZING Cookbook! Every recipe we have made actually worked and tasted Great ! I was a pastry chef for 5 years and was amazed at their authentic crepe recipe! It explains how to make the best scrambled eggs ever (hint: use LOW heat and stir often). And the "cowboy bean bake" is absolutely delicious ! It's true that you will have to lend your child a hand but this is a FAMILY cookbook that you can treasure together ! We can't wait to try the other rcipes !

A wonderful children's cookbook!
My son loves to cook and found this at the library at school. He loved the clear cut directions and illustrations. Me too! His creations came out wonderful! It is worth getting for a child who has an interest in cooking and wants to be independent (but of course still have an adult to oversee the cooking!) In short, clear directions, nice photos and good kid approved recipes! A+

Will surely spark an interest in real food; such gloriously colourful and stylish presentation
The Children's Step-By-Step Cookbook, a complete cookery course for children. A Dorling Kindersley book by Angela Wilkes. I chose this book for our six-year-old grandson who has always loved cooking with me and at home. Now he can read confidently I am really pleased to have come across this Recipe Book, his first one ever. I am very taken with this motivational, encouraging and exciting book myself, and rather want to hang on to it. Everything about cookery is education without realising that's what's going on. Weighing, checking, organising, following instructions and then wow, the excitement of the finished product and the reward of warm praise all round. The shiny, jewel bright photographs are nothing short of exquisite. Men who have never tried much cookery, having seen the book, remark that they would also love to have a go and would enjoy the results, so this book is definitely inspirational. The Cowboy Bean Bake looks to be every man's dream supper. It really would suit all ages coming to cookery for the first time. Perhaps, like the Harry Potter Books, it could have a different cover for adults. If all children could be introduced to this book the diet of the nation could be improved at a stroke. The simplest snacks look completely gorgeous; Rainbow Kebabs include Fruity Treats, Ham and Fruit, Cheese and Pineapple...and more. Sandwich fillings and finger bites to revolutionise the lunch box. Sheer fun food to lift lunch above the everyday and make your children smile. Throughout the book there are light bulb moments when you realise once again that the most nutritious meals can also be the most attractive. Children perhaps do need to be shown that everything sold ready made in the supermarket can also be assembled at home from raw ingredients; for far less cost, hugely better taste and all round goodness. With the bonus that this occupation that will keep them involved, concentrating and focussed on the satisfying preparation of a family treat. Explanations of food groups, helpful kitchen tools and equipment, decorating tips, a "how to' picture glossary, all brightly photographed and simply presented, back up the 50 yummy recipes, photographed step-by-step, that we can't wait to try. Compliments will follow, I am certain.
