Reading tells the story
This book is captivating . It really tells about the Mexican jumping beans and since I am giving them to my children for Christmas, it will be a great story to read together.

The cover picture is nice.
My kids (5 and 6 years old) got this book as a Christmas present. We read it for the first time last night. From what I can tell, the idea of the story is about a jumping bean that can't jump and how he copes with everyday life. Basically its a story on self esteem and coping with being different. The issues: First, It is way too wordy for the age group.Second, the story is complicated with too many pointless characters.Third, there is no middle of the book. There is a beginning and an end but no real middle.Fourth, The message is not clear. I asked my kids what the book was about. My 5yr old son said it was about beans wanting to be in a circus. My 6yr old daughter said it was about a bean that couldn't jump but it was ok because the Priestess bean was magic and let him leave. Both happened in the story but are not the authors point.Fifth, The run on sentences and grammar errors were pretty abundant.Lastly, Poor choice in Character naming. I'm adding this because I really didn't like the name of the Priestess. Priestess Kwalgamonia. Not exactly easy to say for young kids. I even had difficulty reading it over and over. I googled the name to see if this character was based on someone else. This book was the only thing that popped up in the search. The illustrations were ok. I liked the cover picture. This is the author's first book and is self published. All I can say is A+ for effort. Keep on trying. An online children's writing course could prove helpful.
