Enjoyed the serialization
"The Betrayer" by Daniel Judson really sold me on the idea of the serialized novel. I thought of Dickens in particular who serialized his books and it seems to work very well, especially when a book is as filled with suspense as this one. Each episode ends with a cliffhanger through the sixth and ends with the seventh. They are delivered to the Kindle automatically every two weeks, but as soon as one episode was delivered, I read it pretty quickly. This is a hard book to put down. The story involves the Coyle family of New York whose father was an FBI agent who was brutally murdered and labeled as a traitor. The person most likely to have killed him was his oldest and closest friend who had ties to the Russian mob, but you can't trust that. Agent John Coyle's youngest son, Jeremy, takes it into his own hands to hunt down the person who killed his father and in doing so starts the ball rolling for hitmen and criminals to come out of the woodwork to stop him from discovering that information. By the end of the book, Jeremy's siblings and his brother's girlfriend have also joined in and the action and intrigue never stop. It's very hard to determine who to trust for the Coyle family members who want to avenge their father's death. This is an exciting novel of suspense that has many twists and turns. It was fun reading it in episodes, and looking forward to the next installment made it something to really look forward to.Recommended for suspense readers.

THE AUTHOR CAN WRITE!!! IF YOU LIKE HIGH TENSION, FAST-PACED, FINE WRITING, THIS ONE IS FOR YOU.
I am A FAN! The author WRITES beautifully of violence, SECRETS, vengeance, justice, passion, family love, loyalty, betrayal, murder, crime bosses, FBI, cops, corruption...the stuff of great fictional life, and writes it in a way that keeps you up nights reading into the wee hours. I wrote of his "Gin Palace Trilogy," with the first book of the trilogy, that I didn't usually read books with heavy violence, and true that. However, I will read anything Mr. Judson writes, because, to be redundant, THE WRITING IS SO GOOD.The Betrayer hits all the spots listed above, and especially this plot is driven by secrets and family love gone awry, and the deadly journey to mend it all. A pretty story, oh no, but one that captures you from the first, and never lets you go. Just when you think you've figured out what is going on, you are turned upside-down, again. The resolution hits like a hammer, and the ending even, is unexpected. This author DELIVERS. I've just begun my next adventure with him: "The Avenged." If you've the love of high tension, surprises and secrets, this author's work is for you. If you can't take VIOLENCE, then best you skip it; I almost did with my first book of his, and am glad I didn't. Give his first book of "The Gin Palace Trilogy" a try, "The Poisoned Rose." It's a good place to start.

A great who dunnit but a bit over written
A great plot, story line, and likeable though complex characters. But, I felt it was overwritten with characters responding to situations like my brother describes some professional golfers who suffer "paralysis by analysis!" No decision or action by characters could take place without an examination of all options and then second guessing each possible choice! While that certainly made the characters much like many people I know it was at times tedious.Like being third in line at Baskin Robbins and twice listen to the person in front ask what flavors there are and then choosing vanilla.

Journey I Hadn't Anticipated
I found this book in a selection of books on sale fir the month. I read the description and reviews and decided to give it a chance. I rarely read books who's author I know nothing about. From the very first chapter I was captivated by the story that lay before me. I read the first night for a fee hours as I couldn't not put the book down. Ultimately I read this book in a few sittings. The way the book was written and the description painted a picture in my head and I was able to visually picture in my mind a movie that the author wrote. Very descriptive and the characters were very well rounded and made decisions that were true to their character. Overall very happy I took this journey with in the beginning to me was an unknown author. Highly recommend this book.

Confusing, cliched, predictable
Five hours of my life I'll never get back. Ponderous, stock characters, with a contrived plot that simply doesn't make sense. Attempts at providing characters with depth and reasonable back stories are futile and amateurish. I wish I had something good to say, but even the ending was anticlimactic and too pat, further stretching an already thin credibility. I think the author has the skills to write a good, enjoyable, book, but he missed the mark on this onw

The Betrayer
I love everything Daniel Judson writes and have searched bookstores and the internet to obtain all his novels! This one was a fast and twisting story about a family's loss of their father and their search for the truth surrounding his death. One brother has been shot at and is missing. Although they have been estranged the two other siblings reunite to find their brother. They don't know who is behind this crime, only that it is the person responsible for their father's death and the ruining of his reputation. Not knowing who to trust they are on their own but for a few friends. The ending is tense, but predictable.I would recommend this book to mystery and and a

Good read
I really enjoyed this serial. Daniel Judson created some entirely believable characters. The story line was good and each episode left me waiting anxiously for the next one. The only thing I kind of questioned was that the family members seemed to "batter" the one son for his former drug addiction. However, the ending was well brought about, and I would recommend the book to anyone who likes this genre of fiction (mystery, suspense). I still would like to know why the book was titled "The Betrayer" though. Anybody have any ideas? Perhaps the author would comment?
