Fun Activities
I love how this book is set up to give you great activities to do with creative writing. It is very helpful for a teacher trying to find exciting ways for students to write.

Great for general info and fun prompts
I use this as a supplement in a creative writing class. Inexpensive, but gives newcomers a little general overview of terms or devices, but then gives a variety of fun prompts -- there is one for every writing style.

Great practice tool for our writing Circle
I use a lot of Melissa's writing tips for personal and professional projects. I really enjoyed 101 because of it concise approach in introducing each exercise. I read the book first and noted specific exercises that interested me. The practice work and discipline required for each activity carried over to other writing tasks including our writing group. Good for experienced or novice writers. In summary, it rally is a writing coach and a lot of fun.

Great Read, Great Exercises
This is one of the best writing exercise books I have ever seen!! It's not the same type of prompts that are everywhere. She writes well herself and inspires interest in the exercises. When I sit down and write one, it often expands into a short story or essay. Even when they are similar to some I have seen and done before, they are different because of the way she presents them. This has been a great addition to my writing journey.

Love This Book!
This book could well be used as a course study for anyone who wants to try a hand at writing or to improve writing skills. The book is broken down into several topics including freewriting, journaling, fiction, storytelling, etc. Along with each topic discussed there is an exercise to complete. Great for anyone who wants to a new twist on just about every type of writing there is.

I bought this for my aspiring younger author, but ...
I bought this for my aspiring younger author, but this may have been a bit too old for her. She hasn't showed much interest in it.

Great exercises, well presented.
Excellent exercises, nice and short and well described. Really helps me expand my skills at chucks which I can follow. I wonder if this book is under valued? Really great for building my writing skills, as an less experienced writer.

I was looking for something fresh and new did not find it here. Not very nicely designed, either. I'd love a table of contents, and just be able to get to the activity of choice. Unfortunately, I won't be using anything here.

There were some good exercises in this book. I will do some of them at some time in the future.

Im a second year student of English and i required it for SEC paper (creative writing). It was not helpful, it's a good book to get from your library and read but not worth to pay 600 for. Otherwise it's good for a side read or easy way do get a hang of the paper. Helpful: Creative writing : a beginner's manual by Anjana Neira Dev, Anuradha Mawah and Swati Pal

Very useful with my writing group

This is a good book. It reminds me of the Creative Writing textbook we used when I did my degree course in a way, though isn't as intense or detailed. It covers a wide range of writing types so provides a good opportunity to expand one's range, and the explanatory passages that accompany each exercise bring them to life far better than some other books or prompt blogs that just give you the premise. This is an ideal book to help you practice your writing. Those who find it hard getting started in the morning, sitting down and doing one of these short exercises to get the creative juices flowing is a great way to raise your productivity, as often the exercises will produce something more useful than if you were to just write nonsense to get something onto the page.
