This rosewood marking gauge is designed for accurate scoring across the grain without tearing. The 1/4" single-beveled cutting iron is held in place by a brass wedge, and a brass thumbscrew grips the sliding post securely. Solid rosewood fence has two inlaid brass wear plates. Quality tool
Just finished using gauge for marking thickness of boards for 40 dovetails while making a blanket chest. Never slipped or veered off line. Reversed blade for left handed use and it pulls fence tight against end of board while marking reducing errors.highly recommend.

A courtesan... (yeah look it up)
Anything rosewood is desirable. Or is it? I once saw an amazing and perfect dinette set of table and chairs, hutch, and buffet entirely made from rosewood and could find no visible errors in the build or accidental marks. An observation that every novice through master carpenter should experience but very few are capable of reproducing. Part of the experience of being any level of skilled carpenter is having tools you appreciate and enjoy using because of their quality. You do better work (or at least think you do) with better tools because of the frame of mind good tools put you in. This product looks pretty until you put your hands on it and realize it is just about useless. There is way too much slop between the stock and the stem and getting the two to form a square is difficult at best without over-tightening the thumbscrew. This is a necessary part of using a marking gauge in order to have the spur make an accurate cut which is the whole point of having a marking gauge in the first place. The seller cooperated and refunded completely including return shipping. The seller's error is selling Chinese imitations. The manufacture's error is that they are manufacturing.
