The new EP by Incubus on Island Records in 2015, marks 20 years since the release of their indie debut album in 1995, Fungus Amongus. Incubus went on to release six studio albums on the Epic/Immortal label (the last three produced by Brendan O Brien), achieving RIAA gold, platinum and multi-platinum success; as well as five live albums. Four of their songs have hit #1 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart, including Drive (2000, also Top 10 Pop), Megalo-maniac (2003), Anna-Molly (2006), and Love Hurts (2008).

Another little piece o' Heaven
I know I sound like a broken record, but it took a little while to get into this record, as ALL the Incubus albums are.. I think that's almost a good thing, because I believe the complexity of the music has to be sorted out by your brain, and in the end, with every listening, you pick up more and more subtleties, which makes you love it even more... no superficiality ever with Incubus. I think the writing, playing, and singing on this record are amazing, and I can't believe more than 20 yrs later, the creativity is still there.. Each record has it's own feel, and all of the songs "belong".. "Trust Fall" is a great starter.. to me it's like an anthem-type song, and "Absolution Calling" is like it's continuation, in the epic proportions feel to it. Brandon Boyd's lyrics never cease to amaze me (what a mind and a soul), and especially how well they meld with the incredible music. "Make Out Party" and "Dance Like Your Dumb" are more light-hearted songs that are a great complement/balance to the other 2 songs.. MOP has a grinding, building tempo to it with several parts that come together in the end cleverly, and DLYD is a great funky dance song. I dunno, I just can't get enough of this band.. thanks guys, for another gift 💝

Incubus' new EP falls painfully short of living up to its predecessors.
I really wanted to like this EP.I am one of the few older fans of the band (I love Fungus Amongus, S.C.I.E.N.C.E, Make Yourself, etc) who, while frustrated with their abandonment of funk and the hard rock days of old, have loved the last two Incubus albums released (Light Grenades and If Not Now, When?). Surely someone who has a wide enough appreciation for music to enjoy the raw and crazy sounds found on S.C.I.E.N.C.E. and the extremely subdued If Not Now, When would like just about anything this band puts out, right?Right?Wrong. I didn't care much for Morning View (mostly due to Brandon's vocals) and aside from some truly stellar songs on A Crow Left of the Murder (most notably Sick Sad Little World and Here in my Room), I felt that album had all of the right pieces to be great, but they were all glued together so haphazardly that the songs tended to collapse beneath their own weight. My issue with Trust Fall is much like my issue with Morning View; Brandon Boyd. While I do appreciate the melodies he's written, the lyrics outside of Absolution Calling (the only real standout track on this album) are juvenile, overcompensated or oddly frank, disingenuous, and uninspired which is so very disappointing to hear from someone who has a proven track record of being a great lyricist. While, admittedly, he has had plenty of head-shaking moments in the past when he has tried too hard to be profound and ended up coming off as extremely pretentious, his performance on this album is just extremely uncomfortable.Song titles like Make Out Party, Trust Fall, and Dance Like Your Dumb truly do say all that you need to know about the lyrical content of this album. Outside of Absolution Calling, there is no deeper meaning beyond the contrived metaphor surrounding the summer camp trust fall activities that we all hated growing up. The instrumentation, as always, is fantastic. Mike, Jose, Ben, Chris, and Brandon are all extremely talented musicians and their musical prowess is certainly not lacking on this EP. That, coupled with Absolution Calling, are the reason this EP has received more than 1 star. But when you realize the embarrassing truth that you are listening to a 39-year-old man sing about a make out party...it becomes nearly impossible to take anything else on the EP seriously.Which is a shame. Because I really, truly did want to like this EP.

Surprisingly Good
So let's get all the BS out of the way first. I've been a big fan of incubus for a long time, they changed their sound, I'm a whiney little girl. Now, to the actual review of this EP. First off, I bought the LP and it was $23 for a four song EP, so that is not awesome. However, the music more than made up for the high price tag for me. If, like me, you thought If Not Now, When? was the slowest, most boring piece of Incubus music ever made, then I think you'll be surprised at a somewhat return to form. Absolution Calling is propulsive, Make Out Party is cool and quirky. Trust fall is also uptempo and interesting. I never needed Incubus to make SCIENCE or Make Yourself II, I just needed them to have some edge, and make interesting songs not in the adult contemporary category. They have definitely succeeded here, and I'll be interested to see what comes out on side B later this year. Most likely for another $23 vinyl.

Incubus is at it again!
Before "If Not Now, When?" I had high expectations for their next record. It had been about half a decade since any new music had surfaced from them (excluding their "greatest hits" which is then again essentially old tracks, some unsurfaced and edited). "Adolescents" and "Promises, Promises" were to me the two gems of an otherwise dull album. It left me wondering if the band had any more of the energy from their previous albums left and when I listened to "Trust Fall" I once again fell in love with their music. I really enjoy the direction the band is taking and looking forward to more!

Short and Sweet!
It's been a good while in between Incubus albums lately and I'm grateful they put this EP out. Even though there are only four tracks on it, they're lots of fun to rock out to, especially "Dance Like You're Dumb". I'm eagerly anticipating the sequel to this album. So is my brother James since he's the one who got it for a Christmas present last year!

Redemption for Incubus.
I absolutely love Make Yourself and Morning View but not so much the follow up albums (although each had their high points). So even though there are only four songs on the EP, Trust Fall is a must have for Incubus enthusiasts and/or those who simply enjoy artistic rock. I feel with this rendering, the band has/have recorded something the Incubus faithful can sink our teeth into.

I had to listen to the tracks a few times before I really got into this album. I love Incubus, and now I'm addicted to two of the songs.

The 4 songs on this EP are much better than If Not Now
They've done it again! The 4 songs on this EP are much better than If Not Now, When?. They don't sound tired which, honestly, listening to INNW again after hearing their new stuff, yeah they kind of did. For the price you cant beat it, so just pick it up already!

the other 2 show you that Incubus don't have a quality filter any more (used to be Dirk Lance) and tend to just release anything
4 tracks........2 show Incubus can still write killer songs that groove, the other 2 show you that Incubus don't have a quality filter any more (used to be Dirk Lance) and tend to just release anything they write regardless of whether it's good or not. I'm sure (having been in bands before) there must be an internal struggle between the members for the right direction for the band and maybe not all the band are bothered about doing it anymore.......as it clearly sounds half heart since the excellent crow left album.

Schick....
...lange nix neues mehr gehört, tolle sounds, ein wenig anders und verspielter mit anderen Instrumenten usw, aber man hört eben das was man erwartet: Incubus. Könnte noch rockiger sein, vielleicht ja auf Part 2....
