What are these made of? i suspect they're not nylon. what are the differences between the number and letter designations like 500 or 540, and cj & aj?

The number represents what the basses are made of 500 = Corum Basses (flexible string with a wound nylon core), 510 = Cantiga Basses (A new core made of a very different multifilament raw material) and 540 = Classic Basses (wound on nylon). The first letter represents what the trebles are made, C = New Cristal Nylon and A = Alliance (Fluoro carbon thinner strings which offers a clearer sound).
