Im replacing on our caravan too. Stroke length is 40mm on the broken one currently fitted but this one is 50mm< what modifications did you need to make to get it to fit, was your stoke different too?

Q: When turned on does it just stroke in and out continually? Is so, how many strokes per min/hour is it?

No. It goes in when powered to go so. Reverse polarity and it goes out

Q: will this operate on a lower voltage? I am looking to run this on 7.2v

Mine works well on about 11v but I would doubt if it works at almost half volts. There is a small electric motor which has to start and to do this, it must overcome 'stiction' e.g. static friction. If it cannot do it, the coil may heat up slowly and pitentially damage the motor.
