The Icebound Land (Ranger's Apprentice, Book 3) Review: The Icebound Land - The Icebound Land, book three of The Ranger's Apprentice series, takes things in a new direction as the dangers of battle and espionage are exchanged for the perils of imprisonment and travel in hostile lands. As with the first two novels in this stellar series, The Icebound Land delivers a gripping story filled with interesting characters and places, and with just enough plot turns to keep you guessing until the end. In the chaos that followed the fearsome final battle with Lord Morgarath, young apprentice Ranger Will and his new friend Evanlyn are taken captive by the fierce Skandian raider, Jarl Erak. Disgusted by the failure in Araluen, Erak plans to sell Will and Evanlyn as slaves to covers the expenses for his journey across the Stormwhite Sea. Will and Evanlyn fight to stay together as they make the wild sea voyage, but once they reach the Skandian capital of Hallasholm, an insidious enemy threatens to take Will away for good. Only Evanlyn's ingenuity and courage - and the aid of an unlikely ally - can save them both. Back in Araluen, Halt is increasingly frustrated by King Duncan's refusal to allow him to pursue the Skandians and rescue Will. He made a promise to recover his apprentice and he means to keep that promise, even if doing so means defying his King and forsaking his vow as a Ranger. Shamed, stripped of his place in the Ranger Corps and banished from the Kingdom of Araluen, Halt sets out to rescue Will, but he is not alone. Will's best friend and former wardmate, Horace is an apprentice warrior with a natural gift for swordplay. He joins Halt on the journey and stands beside him as they cross the treacherous Gallican countryside. This series continues to captivate. Mr. Flanagan has a real knack for describing the strategy and actuality of skirmishes and battles, as well as for building an interesting and detailed world. Best of all, the Ranger's Apprentice books tell stories you WANT to read about characters you truly admire. Review: Ranger's Apprentice books are for all reader. - The Ranger's Apprentice series is not geared just for boys. There are girls in these stories that are as strong, engage in adventures along side these rangers. I would recommend these books for all, even adults. I joined in their adventures that kept you on the edge of your chair. Enticing you to read more. John Flannagan is the best writer I have read. The books have no sex scenes, no filthy language but because there is evil out there it does have mild violence, which it what the Ranger's fight for, to uphold righteousness for ALL the good that's in this world. Totally assome series.

Excellent read
Fans of this series won't be disappointed with this installment. The story is not a very action packed book. Seems to be mostly full of filler, and tons of character interaction. After the first half of the book Will takes a back seat to his story companions. We get a good look through Halt,Horace, and Evelyn(sp?)eyes. This change of views added a nice spice to the story, as from the first page to the last page. Not a whole lot seems to happen. Really when you read the next installment of this series book 4. It'll seem like the 3rd, and 4th books were one in the same that they split into two installments, and when read back to back. Will complete an amazing story. Overall not the best book in the series, but when you put this book down you don't feel cheated story wise. Even though like i said it feels like the story spends 280 odd pages going little to no where. Though when you read the 4th book you grow to love the 3rd book more. So if you like the first 2 books this one won't disappoint you.

One of the best YA series out there
Got this for my nephew. It's very nastolgic for me. I loved this series growing up. The first 4 or so books are the best. This book picks up after Will's abduction at the end of our last book. His fate is unknown and Halt his mentor and Horace his best friend set off to find him. Their travels take them abroad to Scandia and the fate that awaits them there. It's an exciting continuance of an epic story. You won't want to miss it!

Nice series
Great story line. Well written and compelling to finish. Doesn't have the magic I'm used to but the depth of characters and in site of the descriptions make up for the lack of magic or powers

Unfolding
This is Book 3 the series, and I’m immediately wanting to move on to Book 4. With just the right amount of suspense and action, and I find myself anxious to see what tactics for survival the men and woman in this story will deploy next.
