Great AC Router that delivers on its promise!
I don't write reviews very often but sometimes when a product comes along that actually works as advertised I like to share my thoughts and insights. First off, let me say over the last three to four months I have been searching for an AC router that not only would give me great range in my 2000 sq foot house but also have cloud apps so that I can gain access to my photos and media and also monitor my network while away from home. I had never owned a Dlink product before this purchase but I had read good things about them but had no idea out of all the expensive AC routers that I had tried that this one would be the keeper! Out of the box, this router was very easy to set up with my cable modem. I was up and running in less than 5 minutes! Dlink includes the default SSID's and password on a sticker on the router as well as providing it on a card which is inside the package. This router compared to most of the others currently on the market is definitely smaller and space saving yet is ventilated very well and doesn't even get warm to touch! that is very important because I think heat is the number one killer of these newer routers. I really like the black , shiny finish to this router as it looks really good but it does attract finger prints fairly easy. When setting this router up for the first time just connect to the router via wifi or you can hook a computer with an ethernet cable directly into one of the router's LAN ports and just open up a browser by typing in 192.168.0.1 and you will be greeted with a setup wizard that will guide you through the setup. The GUI is very clean and well laid out but for power users it may be missing some of the bells and whistles. This router does support third party firmware but in doing so that would void your warranty so I just stick with the stock firmware. Upon installation, the router immediately prompted me for a firmware update and it did that with no problems. Once I set up my wireless SSID's, password, etc it was time to install the mydlink lite and share port apps on my smartphone.......this is where dlink is far ahead of the game in my opinion. These apps, although a little tricky to set up work flawlessly once set up. The key is to first go online and set up your mydlink account. The next thing you have to do is link your router to your mydlink account and from there its smooth sailing..........The only negative things I have to say about this router is 1. the antennas are a bit flimsy and they're not very sturdy and will fall over if you handle and move your router a lot so I suggest you decide on a place and not mess with it much. 2. there isn't much documentation on how to set things up to where you can access the router's GUI remotely.....I can tell you that you will need to use port 8081 if you want to do that and to access your USB drive remotely using their shareport app you will need to use port 8181........I about pulled my hair out trying to figure that out but once I did I haven't had any issues whatsoever. This router has supports both the 2.4ghz and the 5ghz bands and has a dual core processor so it can handle a pretty good amount of devices. I have no problems whatsoever streaming live and on demand video. I have three tivo DVR's that are hard wired and I also have a roku 3, apple tv, roku streaming stick, xbox 360, one smartphone, desktop, tablet, printer, and two laptops so on any given day there can be 10 plus devices connected and running simultaneously and I yet to experience any lag or problems! I truly believe this is one of the best routers that is currently out on the market for the price. I can tell you that I have tried some of the more expensive routers such as the netgear nighthawks and the higher end Asus routers and this one hands down is my favorite. I've owned this router for about a month and it has not reboot or given me any problems not the first time. If this router should start giving me any unforeseen problems I will update this review accordingly but as of now I have to say I am now a big fan of Dlink and their routers .

Good for Typical Setup / Requires Work for Non-Normal Home Networks
I bought this to replace a TP link product. Overall the build quality is good, and the UI layout is fairly good for these types of products.I generally dislike setting up routers because the options are described with the technical vernacular of a expert engineer. This item is no different in some respects. Be prepared for some google searching if you have a non-vanilla network setup. In my case, I have some POE/IP cameras that are on this network. This router has both IPV4 DHCP and IPV6 DHCP-PD options enabled by default that was causing issues with IP address assignment of my network cameras. A few hours later after googling, turning random options on/off, I finally turned off IPV6 DHCP-PD and the cameras multicast discovery finally worked.I have no idea why I would need IPV6 DHCP on by default since my computers are NAT'd behind this router. IPV4 DHCP is perfectly acceptable for 99.999999% of the target audience for this home router since most of us do not have 4,294,967,296 computers that would exhaust the IPV4 address space. Some other noteworthy items:- Has Dynamic DNS but not pre-configured for No-IP. But the UI has a manual entry, so I typed in the No-IP configuration.- Has both Port Forwarding and Virtual Server configuration. Be prepared for trial and error here if you set this up. I read conflicting reports of using one or the other but not both configured at the same time.- Can name devices that it discovers, and if you have static IPs on some devices, it will reserve them for these devices.

Top of the line AC router with excellent signal strength and very easy to use
Absolutely fantastic router. Just a note before writing my full review - Amazon seems to bundle together all of the reviews for the D-Link AC series routers. Not a good idea. I am reviewing the D-Link AC1900. After reading other reviews (negative and positive) about other AC routers by D-link, the AC1900 seems to be drastically different and a significant improvement over other routers in the AC line.Pros: Setup in seconds (tip - close out of the window that asks you to install the software and log straight in to the router). Wireless range is amazing. I am able to utilize the full bandwidth of my internet connection in areas of my home where the connection use to fail. My favorite thing is the router's ability to instantly recognize devices that are connected and open the proper ports. I have had Netgear and Linksys routers in the past and constantly encountered NAT issues when more than one xbox was connected at the same time. Not a problem with this router or D-Link in general. As discussed above, wireless signal is outstanding. I upgraded my router primarily because I live in a condo building and the airwaves were slammed with different frequencies causing my signal to become unstable. I have not experienced anything but a solid signal with this router! Further, I have seen approximately a 10x speed boost when utilizing the AC band for transferring files to my NAS. Transferring files wirelessly is now on pace with using a wired connection. Also, if you have experience with D-Link, then are likely used to the standard interface used to change your router's settings. You will also likely know that they changed that interface with this router. This caused me a little concern before purchasing this router. However, have no fear and do not listen to anyone reviews that talk negatively about the new interface. It is a significant improvement and very easy to use. I was able to find all of the settings very quickly and actually faster than using the old interface.Cons: None really, but I would like to point out that this router is rather large. Nearly twice the size of prior D-Link router. I assume it has to do with creating a strong signal and all the different bands. This is not a con for me, but wanted to point it out to everyone. The only other con is the price. From my research prior to purchasing this router, there appears to be other routers that are comparable for approximately $50 less. I went with D-Link though because I have had good experiences with their routers in the past. You also generally get what you pay for.Summary: If you are looking for an excellent AC router that works phenomenally with gaming, file transfers, and has an outstanding wireless range, then buy the AC1900 Dual Band Router from D-Link. You will not regret the decision.
