Reliable and User-Friendly VHF Radio with Built-In GPS!
The Standard Horizon Eclipse-Series VHF Radio with GPS (GX1400G) is a top-notch choice for RV boaters needing dependable communication on the water! This ultra-compact, 25W fixed-mount VHF radio, measuring just 6.14" W x 2.4" H x 3.94" D, fits easily into my RV’s marine setup. Its built-in 66-channel WAAS GPS receiver eliminates the need for external GPS wiring, providing instant latitude/longitude data for DSC (Digital Selective Calling) functions. The ITU-R M493-13 Class D DSC ensures constant monitoring of Channel 70, allowing distress calls, position sharing, and waypoint navigation with a few simple button presses. I tested the DSC distress feature, and it transmitted my vessel’s MMSI and coordinates flawlessly, offering peace of mind for emergencies. The oversized dot-matrix display with a bright backlight is easy to read, even in direct sunlight, and the E2O (Easy to Operate) menu system simplifies navigation through features like programmable soft keys and channel scanning. The noise-canceling microphone delivers crystal-clear audio, cutting through engine and wind noise during calls. My only minor note is that the power button’s push-style design takes a moment to get used to compared to a knob, but it’s a small adjustment. The IPX8 waterproof rating and 3-year warranty (covering water damage) ensure durability. Compared to pricier units like the Icom M330, this radio (around $150–$200) offers incredible value with its plug-and-play GPS and robust features. For RV boaters seeking reliable, feature-packed communication, this Eclipse-Series radio is a stellar pick! Highly recommend!

Great value
Nice vhf radio with GPS. No need to connect to a external GPS. You do need register the radio with MMSI to get it work a $25 dollars fee but if your a Boat US member it’s free. The radio it self is easy to use I’m still learning all the features. It you are replacing and old Standard Horizon that was flush mounted in your dash the old mounting brackets will work on this radio.

Its pretty nice
Its pretty nice. Theres lots of things it can do, but I probably wont remember how to do them when I need to use the radio. This really does have a good easy to use Menu. And I really really really apprecieate the bright green light that lights when someone is talking, that way if the volume is low you can still tell that someone is talking. Hooking this up to a Chart Plotter / GPS / fish finder is very confusing. The instructions are a little lacking. The instructions stop at the chart plotter, the you have to use the chart plotter instructions for the other side. In my case the instructions didnt mesh well (humminbird, and humminbird was very little help). But I did get it hooked up and it does work well. What I dont like is the power button. I would rather it turn on with the volume knob instead of a button

Good user friendly radio, good value
Really like this radio. Favorite part is built in gps but more on that later. Very easy install although I only needed to plug in my antenna and put two of the crimp on wire plugs to the power wires. I like the 16 priority button for easy return to 16 after using a different channel. I also really like channel buttons on the mic. And the digital channel display easy very easy to read as you scroll through the channels. Seems like that wouldnt be that hard but my last radio was terrible for that. It has a scan function that I haven't taken the time to figure out yet but it's a handy feature I've used on other radios in the past. GPS- didnt have to do a thing, no external antenna for gps and it gives me lat long. Really great feature for me as I dont have fixed electronics on my boat. I use phone apps but now I have lat long all the time right there on the radio. Good safer feeling for rest of family should they need to call for assistance. I also was able to get an mmsi number through my Boat US membership. I input the mmsi # to the radio which links our boat information and emergency contact info to the radio. Now, as I understand it, if we hit the emergency mayday button the radio will broadcast our boat info and lat long info automatically. Very good layer of safety for very easy install and cost. Only problem I've had and its probably my issue is the time. I cannot find a way to set the time which makes sense because its tied into the gps. The only time option I've found is utc or local time. But the local time is not my correct time. Utc is the the time zone in europe, I think what use to be called Greenwich mean time. All in all, great buy.
