An absolutely stunning and unexpectedly pleasant tarot deck
I came across this deck while searching for cheap $8-15 tarot cards to make some mismatched/chaos decks that I’m gifting out to friends. This one caught my eye even though it’s out of the price range. I browsed some of the reviews and thought it may be worth the splurge, as a unique addition into the mismatched decks I’m creating. The ONLY negative thing I have to say about this deck, is that it’s well above the standard 2.75/4.75” tarot size (I’ve added a few pictures with a standard size RWS card beside for reference) and it’s not annotated in the product description.I opted not to crop the cards as I’ve done with other decks for this project, and keep them as an intact set because of how unique these cards are to all my personal decks. The entire set is beyond gorgeous and extremely high-quality. I’ve seen artisan decks of a fraction of the quality and effort, printed in China, be hot sellers for double/triple the price. The author has taken tremendous care to narrate a story behind each card that aligns beautifully with universal tarot descriptions while simultaneously bringing Dali’s work to life. Although this deck may be used as a substitute for any other typical tarot reading, I’ve decided to refrain from reading them reversed and creating spreads like I would with a normal tarot deck, and use them purely for single-card oracle reading. This is partially due to the enormous size of the cards, but also because the author does such an excellent job at bringing Dali’s art to life. You could spend hours examining one card, with or without the accompanying guidebook. It’s as profound as walking through an art gallery in that respect.

Better than expected!! WOW!🥰
I was expecting a deck of tarot cards, and booklet. The box is huge, and purple velvet, opening to a large soft bound book, in several languages. The book shows a full size (or slightly bigger) photo of each card on the left side and the description, meanings, ect. (In I believe 5 languages) on the right. I was gifted the original 1984 limited edition Salvador Dali red velvet with 24k gold gilded edges, as my very first deck! I have been searching for the book ever since. It usually goes for between $200-$600 !! (For just the book! ) This set was $55.00!! And I now have a deck I can work with while learning about each individual new painting that Dali created for his tarot! And I don't have to worry about damage to my original 1984 Dali Red Velvet deck! It was brand new, still in the original shrink wrap and in perfect condition. Im thrilled to finally have a backup copy and the companion book to the deck that started my tarot obsession, 38 years ago! I am beyond thrilled!!❣️

Gaudy case, excellent cards
Comes in an oversized purple, velour like case (maybe 8 x 14, like a legal pad) with a recessed cutout for the deck of cards to sit in (housed in a flashy gold cardboard box) and space for the larger book to be seated on top. Each card collages a piece of classical art that Dali, acting as an art historian, then riffs on with surrealist elements. It's worth looking up the wikipedia entry for the paintings used in the collages. They're entertaining and sometimes give a wry twist to the card's interpretation-- The Renaissance artist Carvaggio is commissioned by the church to paint the Virgin Mary. He spends the money on prostitutes, has one pose as his "Virgin", and it's a scandal. He never saw the painting, "Death of the Virgin", on display because he killed a man in a sword fight following a heated tennis match and had to flee Rome. The painting is one of the last depictions of the Virgin Mary dying a human death in Catholic lore (not glowing or floating). Dali only clips part of the composition, a young woman in mourning, and his take seems to conflate the "Death of the Virgin" with the 'death of a virgin', i.e. losing virginity. Maybe Mary loses her virginity when we cease to think of her as divine?

Gorgeous!!
I’ve been looking at this deck for a while and decided to treat myself. I find the art on the decks soo gorgeous, might I add I’m an art history major so I think it was right up my alley. But feels great as a collection item as well as a beautiful take on tarot. LOVE.

Beautiful!
This is so much more than I expected. I ordered it and then had buyers remorse and tried to cancel it, but amazon sent it anyway. The cards are beautiful and high quality, as is the box and book that come with it. The book is so detailed and having a multilingual edition helps a lot, living in a state that’s almost 50/50 in languages spoken by the citizens. It has English, Spanish, German, and French. The cards are very tall, taller than any other deck I own, so shuffling is difficult, especially with my small hands, but not impossible. Definitely will take some practice. Some of the imagery is a bit of a stretch and it’s a bit more abstract/composite style so it’s not all in Dalí style like you may be accustomed to. Overall, it was a great buy, even better since amazon helped me out with a refund since they couldn’t cancel my order.

Nice, but...
The velvet box is gorgeous, the big full color book is amazing, the cards themselves... meh. All the production value went into the packaging and box, which is ok, as this is likely a collector deck for most people, so won't actually be used a ton. Nicer card stock, even playing card stock would have made this perfect. Gilded edges for a bump in price would have been even better. For those lusting after the original Dali tarot and not willing to shell out $200 or more for a copy, this is a nice option.Since it is, at the end of the day, a tarot deck, no matter how nice the packaging, I'm knocking off a star for the quality of the cards themselves. I returned my copy.(Unrelated to product review, as the seller has no control over Amazon shipping, but just a note to potential buyers: I returned this twice because the first copy was shipped in an unpaid edition plastic envelope, so of course the nice velvet box was damaged. 2nd copy, same packaging, less damaged. Be prepared to return a few copies on the chance Amazon decides to pack yours so irresponsibly.)

EXQUISITE. BUY THIS DECK NOW.
If you’re a fan of tarot and Dali, buy this is deck while it’s affordable or before they run out. The box is huge. The cards are huge. The book is beautiful. It is my favourite deck in a collection of many (along with the Minghella Sforza-Visconti) which says a lot !! The deep purple is the perfect colour for this artful, original deck. Maybe get a purple suede bag to go with it. If you can’t afford it, Christmas is just around the corner. And if you don’t like it (which you will), you can always return it. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !
