Really cute book with age appropriate content for both my 5 & 8 year olds. I find it hard to find chapter books that are not about stroppy kids that hate this or hate that & use language I'd rather not teach my kids. They'll eventually pick up those kinds of attitudes probably but I prefer not to introduce it to them willingly! This book is really cute & my kids cracked up reading it.

8 Class Pets + 1 Squirrel, etc, who could ask for anything more?
I bought this for my library collection at the recommendation of an 8 year old. Success! Many thanks! Read it yourself because I am not going to give anything more away: I think the title says it all! Sybil Blazej-Yee, a librarian, an artist and a children's book author

4th Grade Lunch Reader
I volunteer at my kid's school to read to the class during their lunch. I was googling entertaining books for 4th grade (10 yr olds). The class thoroughly enjoyed this book. I thought they would enjoy the book; but, reading this elicited laughs from the class. It's a very neat concept, with many animals narrating in 1st person perspective their take on a singular event.

Excellent Read-Aloud
Really fun chapter book for read-aloud, especially if you're good at voices (although the author has written the different animals' voices so clearly that you could read them all the same and they would still be distinct). We do most chapter books on the Kindle, so I hesitated with this but am glad I did.

My six year old twin boys and I loved this short chapter book
My six year old twin boys and I loved this short chapter book. The only downside is that it was so fun, it didn't really work as a bedtime story. Each chapter is told from the point of view of a different class pet. It was fast paced and fun to read.

Funny and Holds interest
My 8 year old girl loves animals and this book was a big hit. She is just really getting into reading chapter books and I am so happy when I can introduce one that encourages her love for reading. She liked it so much she insisted I read it so we could discuss it! Exactly what I was hoping for.

Great for 2nd grade and above
This book was highly recommended for read alouds for 1st graders. I adore this book. It is hilarious. I have read it out loud to nieces and nephews, but I must say that it is a little above my 1st graders. I am devastated by that.

What do class pets get up to when the children go home? Read this and find out...
My whole family enjoyed reading this book together. We have now given it away to three other families - and are replacing our copy, which has fallen apart...The youngest appreciated the predictable conclusion in each classroom - she kept listening to find out how they did it this time...The middle ones loved the slapstick comedy, and said the side-comments from the pets were funny and made them seem like they thought they were children in the class not just pets. The oldest talked about how the author had used the way the animals talked to show what those animals were like. They made up a few new class pets (including a penguin, yes) and wrote their commentaries on what might have happened in their classroom. They chose to do this by themselves - and even worked together on it...The only possible negative we've encountered is that it takes place in an Elementary School - but once this has been explained as the US version of a Primary School, it was no longer a problem.
