Can this comb be used with a hair dryer?

Absolutely OK! They are sturdy and very durable,I think it will last forever !!!

What is the length of the metal handle?

It looks about 2.5 inches maybe 3?

Has anyone used these for grooming dogs (making the part, making the top knot, etc.)?

No, I’ve used them on people but they’re very easy to work with. It the dog has long/medium hair it would work

What are the ridges at the base of the comb for?

I can’t say for sure - but they are on the part of the comb you would hold so I would think they are to improve your grip if the comb is wet.
