..."things are not always what they seem"...
NYPD Detectives John Stone and Carmen Dehan reopen a ten year-old case involving the death of Dave Thorndike, an investigative reporter...Stone and Dehan realize that although the wife and mistress had reasons to kill Dave, his death looks more like an execution... Once they figure out that Dave was investigating Senator Carol Hennessy, Stone and Dehan take a closer look at her...This was a decently paced mystery with an interesting storyline and intriguing characters. This is my seventh Dead Cold Mystery and I am completely hooked on this series! I think Stone and Dehan make great partners and I enjoy "watching" them work together to solve their current case. This one was was full of twists and turns that kept me guessing and turning the pages. We learn who the detectives were going after early on, but watching them gather the evidence to finally arrest the guilty parties in the end made for an engrossing read...AfterThought: The author is using British ranks of police officers in a book that takes place in New York City, US. They would not call them plane trees in America, they are called sycamores. They do not have the Mustang Cabrio available in the US, either... I guess if it is only the little things that annoy me, then Blake Banner is doing a good job of entertaining me!

Shades of “Law & Order”
This is the best Dehan and Stone book I’ve read yet, and I’m reading them out-of-order! Two reasons: 1. We are getting closer to them understanding and doing something about how they feel toward each other ❤️ 2. Talk about ripped from the headlines! I always wondered when someone would write a fictional book about the rumors swirling around a certain former U.S. Secretary of State! Dehan and Stone pick a cold case that will take them to a scary place where one of them gets shot and the other is possibly dead. “Healing hurts more than getting injured!”As usual this case is very complex and opens a Pandora’s box with an amazingly evil set of criminals. Led by a husband and wife team, money, violence, and power is the name of the game. If someone does them wrong, they just call their favorite hit man! What is justice? Is that question answered? So entertaining and suspenseful, you will want to read this straight through!

The Heart To Kill. Blake Banner
A journalist is murdered. The case turns cold, unsolved. Detectives Stone and Dehan begin to investigate. The clues lead them to an ex Secretary of state and senator. Apparently , anyone who crosses her dies rather mysteriously. Sound familiar? An attempt is also made on Stones life. Non stop action, twist and turns on every page. An excellent read!

Really Broken-hearted
Book 7 in the series. I don’t know you. I don’t know if you like books written in a series. I don’t. I read the first book, An Ace and a Pair, because it was free through BookBub. Since then, I have compulsively read the next 6. These are not romance novels, they are detective tales with the addition of two lonely people who work together. Great books, please treat yourselves. I already bought the rest, join me. Nick the moose.

ANOTHER COLD CASE MURDER SOLVED
Blake Banner’s “Cold Case Mystery” series gets better with each book, and “The Heart To Kill” is no exception. It is an excellent story. With all the skill of a surgeon, Banner takes our heroes (and us) on a wild, twisting, turning journey to solve a 10-year old cold case murder. If you have never read any of the “Cold Case Mystery” series, treat yourself to a fascinating experience and start with the 1st book in this series. By the time you finish “The Heart To Kill”, you’ll be glad you did.

Tongue in Cheek......
These two characters are extremely well written and watching them work through the cold cases is always fascinating, but the added spice of a thinly veiled political political pair and their foundation as the evildoers being brought down raises this book to a whole ‘ nother level!

Action and intrigue.
Have been reading the series in order. Have loved all of them. This one not so much and can't explain why. The conversations weren't understandable. John is getting too complicated. And Dehan is different but not sure how. Maybe I will figure it out in the next book. Because despite those things I want to keep going.

Another Good One As Power And Glory Exploit Deceit Everywhere - Does The Old Devil Called Love Care?
Stone and Dehan rise to the occasion again. In another good book. The pair of them get involved with corruption and the evils of ambition, with all roads leading to a dodgy politician. The shooting of Dave Thorndike in 2008, as he opened the door of his apartment. Is the unsolved homicide that NYPD Detective's John Stone and Carmen Dehan will re-examine.The victim was an investigative journalist. Was he about to reveal a major scoop? That would have severe consequences for someone, or a large organisation?Could this matter, have something more closer to home as the answer? He lived with his girlfriend Katie O’Connor. A realtor. For those of us in the UK, it’s an estate agent. She had, just found out he was married. The wife Samantha, who was a fellow writer. Was extremely bitter about his infidelity. Would this be a case of “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”?

Dead cold cases
I have always enjoyed books based on cold cases. I love the way evidence is looked at from a different angle and new leads followed. Blake Banner is a master at this uncovering layer upon layer of intrigue and just enough personal chemistry going on for you to shout at him get on with it. Brilliant!Karen

Captivating
Some American cop fiction writers simply churn out the text, seemingly based on a successful formula. Blake Banner has developed a wonderful knack of turning out this Cold Case series to be fresh and developing. He is rapidly becoming one of my favourite authors. If in doubt, read the series from the beginning to gauge the developing lead characters. Highly recommended.

Blake Banner - A VERY readable new author
I discovered Blake Banner about three months ago and have since gone through the 'Dead Cold' series like a dose of salts.Eminently readable with clever plotting and a most interesting dynamic between Stone & Dehan, I have enjoyed every one and sincerely hope Mr Banner continues this series.
