xD What the actual fffff!
I never thought I could laugh AND cringe so frickin' hard at the same time! Of course, this would ONLY be made possible because Ryan Reynolds is in it! OMG yes, totally loved this movie and I don't suspect it'll be topped by anything else on this site for a while tbh!

Norman Bates for the new millennium (contains spoilers!)
The Voices is one of the oddest movies I've ever seen but absolutely brilliant! Ryan Reynolds stars as Jerry, a lonely, severely disturbed (we find out why in flashbacks), but sweet and likable guy who works in a bathtub factory in a small town. Jerry talks to his dog Bosco and cat Mr. Whiskers... and they talk back, representing his "good" and "bad" sides (Bosco the former, Mr. Whiskers the latter). Reynolds does the voices for both animals (as well as a couple of others) and I had no idea it was his Scottish accent coming from Mr. Whiskers (or the somewhat dopey Bosco, always encouraging him to be a good boy). The animals are shown talking (the magic of CGI) which adds to the overall effect. Mr. Whiskers has several hilarious lines.Jerry's social skills are almost nonexistent but he tries to befriend Fiona (Gemma Arterton), a British co-worker, who senses there's something not quite right and avoids him. Fiona is the first of Jerry's "unintentional" victims and after dismembering her he puts her head in his fridge, holding jolly (and not so jolly) conversations with her throughout the film.Jerry sees a court-appointed psychiatrist (Jacki Weaver) who wants to give this poor guy a chance but makes the mistake of trusting him to take his medications. Bad move. After killing Fiona, full of remorse, Jerry takes his meds once and suddenly Bosco and Mr. Whiskers stop talking and we get a real view of his apartment, a filthy pig sty filled with dog excrement and who-knows-what-else (besides numerous small, neatly stacked plastic containers filled with Fiona's remains). Who would take meds when their "natural" world is so much nicer?Lisa (Anna Kendrick) is another co-worker who has a crush on Jerry. They go out for drinks and end up spending the night together (which isn't what Jerry planned). Jerry is the happiest he's probably ever been, having made normal human contact. Their scenes are touching and sad and funny and, finally, horrifying, as Lisa visits him unexpectedly and discovers Fiona. Now there are 2 heads in the fridge, both chatting away happily with Jerry. It's not long before fellow workers wonder what happened to Fiona and Lisa. Alison (Ella Smith), another "Accounting chick (Fiona and Lisa work in the department too)," shows up at Jerry's apartment. Another talking head. Jerry realizes he's done horrible things but believes Mr. Whiskers is at fault for egging him on, but Fiona and the pets set him straight with the truth: the voices are all in his head. Jerry goes to see his psychiatrist and ends up kidnapping her, taking her to a secluded spot to talk about his predicament. Her revelatory explanation that he doesn't have to act on what his voices tell him is "like 10 years of therapy in 10 seconds," and Jerry takes her back to his apartment. The police show up and Jerry decides to escape (his apartment is above a bowling alley [apparently closed]) from a vent in the bathroom, accidentally dislodging a natural gas pipe in the process which sets the place ablaze. His voices are telling him to join them so they can all be together and Jerry decides to lie on the floor, accepting his fate. Bosco and Mr. Whiskers say goodbye to each other. The closing credits are hilarious but I won't go into detail except to say the ensemble sure can dance and sing. The Voices isn't a comedy or a horror movie and doesn't fit into any genre -- it's funny, horrifying, touching, and sad but the overall effect (for me) was amusement. Jerry may be the the nicest, most sympathetic, and funniest homicidal killer ever. I first watched the movie on VOD but the DVD has several special features (everything but a blooper reel...) and is worth the expense. One of the producers (who has a couple of droll cameos) states it's "morally ambiguous," which is as good an explanation as any. It doesn't make Jerry or any characters "bad (except possibly his step-father, seen in the flashbacks)" even though Jerry commits terrible acts. His psychiatrist should have been more diligent but you feel her desire to help this sad man and Jerry's honesty (specifically about not taking his meds) makes her feel he can be trusted. Lisa, a bit pathetic herself, genuinely cares for Jerry and makes him as happy as he's ever been but that ends once she makes her impromptu visit. The Voices isn't for everyone but seems destined to become a cult classic.

An excellent case study of schizophrenia for your CHURCH BIBLE STUDY
They didn't get it all right. And some things were played to excess. But the questions of self worth? Are relevant. Are we good or evil? Is relevant. The most insightful parts are when there are too many voices to listen to all at once? That is overwhelming. Take it from a paranoid delusion schizophrenic. The isolation? Is what gets you. The more you isolate the more you listen to yourself. The less you can hear anything but your own self talking. And it gets more and more extreme as isolation progresses. Some of this is just disturbing cannibal serial killer shit. It's rare any one keeps bodies in fridges unless they eat them.I do not project my voices onto other things always either. I know it's me talking. But sometimes, they do come from something that's not me it seems. Or maybe it's just the extremes of me I don't even recognize.I also love the Anna Kendricks. She plays this great. So does Ryan Reynolds. Though he's a bit too likeable for a real life schizo filled with dark thoughts, abandoment and distrust? It's a movie. And his interpretation was....unrealistic at best.By the time a schizo has built up enough to even be recognized as such they are usually filled with fear, hate, rage. And a variety of other what might be called far right or left emotions.

Ryan Reynolds is a Norman Bates for the 21st century
For some reason Ryan Reynolds hasn't really taken off as a movie star, but I can't really see why. He has the good looks and he has a likeable personality. Maybe it has to do with GREEN LANTERN? (not the best movie, but I still enjoyed it). Well, this time teamed up with director Marjane Satrapi (PERSEPOLIS) in her English-language debut, Ryan Reynolds delivers what is probably the best performance of his career. He plays Jerry, a rather unassuming (but subtly creepy) guy who works at a faucet and fixture warehouse in a small town. Everything seems alright on the surface, but deep inside Jerry has some problems. Aside from a troubled childhood, he also hears voices inside his head, and these voices tell him to do things...bad things. I'll just say that for those looking for a lighthearted comedy, this isn't it. THE VOICES goes to some pretty dark places, but manages to balance the tone fairly evenly between comedy and shock, of which there is plenty. But most importantly, Jerry is a guy you actually care about. Despite his...issues, he really wants to do the right thing and live a normal life. Too bad that his cat Mr. Whiskers is more influential than his goodhearted dog Bosco. Across the board, all of the performances were excellent. You have Anna Kendrick and Gemma Arterton who play a couple of Jerry's coworkers, and Jacki Weaver plays his court-appointed psychiatrist. They could have been developed a little more, but this is mostly Ryan Reynold's show and boy does he deliver! From a technical standpoint, I thought the cinematography and production design lent a sort of fairy-tale quality to the film, and the color scheme which had a lot of pinks and oranges provided a nice contrast with dark subject material. As far as the gory stuff is concerned, they don't show a whole lot, instead opting for some pretty gruesome sound design. Often the power of suggestion is more effective than actually showing violent acts. And, in this case, it actually works in the film's favor because Jerry can remain just as likeable when you don't actually see him kill people most of the time. If there's any weaknesses to the film, it's that it doesn't really try anything new or revolutionary in its approach to the whole "loveable serial killer" thing. Almost nothing that happens in this movie is unpredictable in some way, with one big exception which I'll leave for you to experience on your own should you choose to watch this. Overall I enjoyed this a lot, mainly because I'm drawn to oddball films like this, but also because I haven't seen Ryan Reynolds this good in, well, forever. For lovers of dark comedies, I'd say THE VOICES is a must-see.

Gemma Arterton j'adore !!!
Film assez étrange...on navigue entre le film d'horreur et le film d'humour (noir)...à trop naviguer (à vue) on s'y perd un peu.Heureusement il y a Gemma....!

Man hätte einiges aus diesem Film machen können...... hat man aber nicht.Er ist langweilig und leider nicht mal ansatzweise so böse, wie er verspricht.
