Modigliani: Beyond the Myth Hardcover – May 11, 2004

This is a beautiful, informative book about the artist and his work. There is just enough information in his biography. It's not one of those biographies that supposes that he did this thing at this time because of what was happening at that particular time in that particular time with that particular crowd. Just the facts. And the paintings! The book is full of color reproductions of his paintings. What's not to like.

After so many years of never seeing anything but the occasional nude, it was so wonderful to discover all the portraits, large ones in color, and see the drawings too. Plenty of bio too, if you need it.

If you love Modigliani this book is a must!His paintings are in all major museums. For such a short life he painted he painted a lot, amazing.

He is my favorite painter, and I found the readings and the paintings so interesting. The plates are clear and picked from a great selection.

There have been many publications on Modigliani lately and also many exhibitions (in Paris, London, NY). This particular book, which is the catalogue for a show at the Jewish Museum, is, in my opinion, the most original one in that it attempts to study the artist setting aside all the rest (that is "the myth"). The beautiful reproductions enable the reader to see what a revolutionary portraitist Modigliani was, even sometimes minimalist (to use a fashionable word). The provenance of the works shows that he did have early admirers, and not only among his peers or dealers.

I came along Modigilian's Art druing a drawing class. I purchased a small book at a local bookstore first. I was so impressed over the artist and his paintings that I want to learn more about his work. He is a master painter of the early 20 th century. Some of his figures have a sence of sadeness in there way how they look . Some of the poses are oriented on classic old masters.Describtions are given in the book. Also you will see delightful abstract forms and colors. I really can recomend the book to everyone who wants to learn more about this great artist.The book also shows images of drawings and sculptures.

Comprehensive and thorough book about the life and works of Amadeo Modigliani. A great reference book with many plates of his art.I am very glad to have this book, well worth it.

After much searching for a Modigliani book bought this as a present for a painter/Modigliani fan who very happy with it. Good combination of Modigliani history, development and techniques with a fair selection of pictures that allow this book to left out and capture the interest of a passer by/visitor to the home.
