This book has been (and continues to be) an essential tool in formulating a shamanic drum & journey circle for my own community. Michael Drake provides over two decades of experience and wisdom about creating, sustaining, and facilitating shamanic drum circles using best practices, while leaving the window wide open for a group’s personal style and choices.Michael Drake provides a good, basic background about shamanism, as well as practical information such as how a typical drum circle event could be structured, what the roles of the members and circle keepers could be, when and how to get the word out to the community, and why group journeying and healing can be so nurturing and fulfilling to the circle.I highly recommend this blessing of a book to anyone considering the idea of starting their own shamanic drum circle and, also, to anyone who facilitates an established circle but would like to gain some great insight on how to make their drum circle more effective. This book is well researched and referenced, contains helpful information about various instruments, and provides several resources for further exploration.

I have been involved for years with drum circles. Virtually everything I've read in the public domain deals with using African or Latin drums and percussion instruments. This is the only resource of which I'm aware that focuses on shamanic drumming and drumming primarily with frame drums. In addition and more importantly, the book demonstrates Michael Drake's grounding in the sense, ritual and sacredness of drumming and drum circles. This is a helpful and inspiring book for anyone interested in drumming, shamanic drumming and/or drum circles.

Not really a book about how to drum but lots of very common info on getting any group together.

It just delivers. It’s by far one of the best books on Shamanism I’ve ever read, and I read many. It is concise, thoroughly documented, it comes from sheer author’s experience and you can tell that in every line.I read another book of the author and I wasn’t totally impressed, but this, this one is a no-brainer. Get it, use it, love it, and repeat!
