V2 Stealth (All Black) - Best Guitar Upgrade to Improve Tuning Stability

My Gibson SG is playable again
My Gibson SG is finally playable again. I had put it in a closet the last two years because I could not get it (G and D strings) to stay in tune and I played my other guitars instead. But now my Gibson is back to being my favorite guitar again thanks to the spring Butler. I wish other reviewer‘s would have said what version they bought instead of just saying whether or not they liked the string Butler . So I want to mention here that I bought the metal V2 size and I think it is the best size for a Gibson SG and Gibson Les Paul guitar . I also put a V2 on my Epiphone les paul jr. And now I plan to buy 2 more of these to put on my Epiphone Les Paul and Epiphone SG. I disagree with the people who say these are too expensive. I have to deal with machine shops in my daily job and based on quotes I’ve gotten for various mechanical parts I don’t really understand what basis people are using for comparison when they complain about the price. This item is lightweight yet has to be very sturdy to withstand the pressure of 4 strings constantly pulling on it. I see no deformation or bending on metal base, nor on the shafts the little rollers are on. There are 9 separate metal machined parts that make up this item. I feel this is a very high quality, well designed, and well machined item. Sometimes you get what you pay for and In my personal opinion I think the quality of this item and how well it works justifies the price. I think this string butler seems to have had more of a positive result on my tuning than any other single thing I have tried on my Gibson. On a side note, I went to the actual String Butler official website to see where it is made and I think this item is actually made in Germany. Today, as I am writing this review the dollar is only worth 0.86 Euro, so that exchange rate by itself explains some of the price I paid here on Amazon.com in the United States . I wonder if other reviewers have taken the dollar/euro exchange rate into consideration when they said the price of this item is too high.

V3 made in China
I don't know if there was a change going from the V2 to V3, but I ordered a gold V3 from the distributor Laplaceonline, and had two issues. 1) it said made in China on the package, which is odd when the Deitrich Parts website says they're made in Germany and 2) there was a manufacturing defect on the left wing of the one I received -probably because it was made in China. Needless to say I returned it. I don't want something that looks defective hanging on my headstock. Instead I bought a V2 directly from Deitrich Parts reverb website because they're sold out of the gold plated V3.

Installed the Acrylic model on an older 1962 Gobson SG Reissue
First off I liked the Acrylic model because the String butler does lie against the headstock and when you tighten the nuts there is pressure and so accidental overtightening causing damage to your headstocks finish is probably reduced. In addition the Acrylic model once installed is appealing to my eye as it rests on this SG. I was surprised as I was expecting a change in intonation that turned out to be miniscule. The guitar does stay in tune better and I still lubricate the nut just in case. I know guitarists a zillion times better then me have gotten by without the String Butler for years but less tuning is less tuning, and in my opinion that makes it worthwhile.

I bought this product for a 2015 Gibson SG which I have had for 2 years now; the entire time it has never stayed in tune for more than a bend or two. I read about the issue with guitars that are deigned with the 3x3 tuning machines so it makes a lot of sense that the String Butler alleviates the stress that comes with the strings being pulled in 2 different directions across the nut. This product works extremely well, I am impressed. 45 bucks seems a lot for how small and simple the product is, but it works! I put new strings on, stretched them once and the guitar hasn't really needed to be tuned again after a full day of shredding and bending, on new strings no less! I thought I would never be able to trust this Gibson, now I'm gonna advertise to all my buddies with guitars that won't hold a tune.

It works
It seems they lump reviews for all versions of the string butler together. This review is for the V3. I have had this on my ESP LTD for 2 years now. It stays in tune very well. The only reason I bought this was to correct what I see as a design flaw in the headstock. The break angle after the nut. The Gibson style headstock is a poor design all the way around. I hate it. It is a friction point that should not be there. To the people leaving poor reviews and stating that this did nothing for the tuning stability on their guitar. It is not a cure all. Set your guitar up properly and there will be no problem. Get a quality nut and cut it correctly. Get rid of those knife blade saddles on your tune-o-matic style bridge (the other Gibson design flaw) and get a decent set of rollers. If the string butler doesn’t help, then either you or your guitar tech is no good at setups. Period. Just think about the problem. Tip: just because you cut the nut slot wide enough doesn’t mean you cut it correctly. The only friction is in the bottom of the nut slot after you install the string butler. If there is still a problem, move on to the bridge. There are lots of YouTube videos that can help you.

Awesome product!
This product is awesome. I always had issues with my Les Paul going out off tune, since I installed the String Butler my Les Paul stays on tune, even after wild and crazy bends. Every Les Paul owner should by this product it is worth it.

I have a butler.
Whoa.. wow.. This butler has been sitting around for a bit waiting to be installed on a guitar I am building. But it's taking to long to build (because I want perfection) so I installed it on my Epiphone and I like it. The straight pull on the center strings makes for a softer touch. Barre chords seem easier on my fingers. The tone seems a bit tangy but it really goes along well with the type of music I'm learning. Thank you, I'm going to have to get another one for my new build.

good quality and works well
I'm not entirely sure if this really has made a difference, but it does exactly what it says it's meant to. The device itself is well made, with small rollers to ensure the strings move smoothly. After fitting, which is a 5 minute job, and restringing the guitar, the strings are now routed through the nut in a straight line, rather than at an angle, which has got to be better...I've realised that on my other guitar, the headstock isn't rectangular, and is narrower at the top than the bottom, so the tuners are not in a straight line, meaning the strings are routed better through the nut, so the issue can easily be fixed by a better design, but as most acoustic guitars tend too look like mine, the string butler is a good alternative...

IT WORKS!
Fitted the STRING BUTLER V2 to a Chapman ML-2 Classic super easy to install and decided to orient in the "V" position (point down) to minimise the angle of string bend to the machine heads whilst maintaining the straight angle from the nut.It simply works and the guitar seems to sound sweeter as the tuning is more stable. Yes it still eventually goes out of tune with crazy string bending but it's not a locking system so that's to be expected. It just lends a hand and helps out enough to make it useful and rewarding to install.Glad I got it and will get another String Butler V2 for my Epiphone Black Beauty.

String butler, an impressive bit of kit.
This is a brilliant if somewhat expensive solution to keep the strings from binding on the nut, usually on single cut style guitars, which may cause potential tuning issues. Having fitted it it seems to have cured the problem, I don't get the usual pinging noise when tuning; even though I have a Tusq nut fitted, and tuning stability is much improved even with aggressive string bending. It looks well made and should last a lifetime.

Gibson tuning issues solved!
This device DOES solve the major design flaw of the Gibson headstock: the fact that the D and G strings are angled across the nut. However, before fitting the String Butler you must examine the nut slots, particularly the ones for the D and G. Sometimes Gibson’s TRAINED CHIMPS cut these slots at the correct angle; sometimes not. If these two slots are ‘properly’ angled you need to ‘fan out’ the slots on the headstock side of the nut using a nut file or sandpaper, so that the string will cross the nut straight after you’ve fitted the String Butler. Failing to do this will introduce a kink at the nut which will negate the String Butler advantage. This caveat aside, the String Butler works flawlessly - even extreme bends do not define the G String. Highly recommended.

Fantastic bit of engineering but...
Fantastic bit of engineering but... be aware if you have (certain brands of) top locking tuners this won't be compatible (without drilling). I bought this and a set of Kluson top locking tuners and attempted to put both on my Nighthawk. The Kluson top lockers have a hole near the bottom of the post and the extra depth that the string butler and its plastic washer give meant that with the locking nut in place the hole in the post was not available. This is a real shame as the string butler is a beautifully constructed and engineered item. It looks great and appears to have been manufactured to an extremely high spec. All is not lost in my case as I have another 3x3 that I will use this on when I next need to change the strings.
