Tip: To make this more comfortable to wear I stitch a straight seam down the center, leaving a half-inch space before reaching both ends where the front ties begin. Just shake the poly beads to one side to do the stitching so you don't sew over them. If you do this BEFORE soaking it, it will lie flatter against your neck. Otherwise, you will have a thick, round, firm sausage-shaped Arctic Tie which is not as comfortable when fully soaked. Wetting this tie and placing it in the fridge or freezer for 5 minutes makes it even cooler. I used this product when traveling around Texas in the summer and it helped quite a bit to keep me cooler. Just wet it again when it starts to dry out for all day use. If the manufacturer would make the stitching adjustment so that the Misty Mate tie would lie flat against your neck, I would give it 5 stars.

We got some for ourselves and as gifts for xmas. We have used 2 of them. The problem is one was filled with the special beads, soaked up water and seem to work as advertised. BUT the other one had signifcant less beads and this definitely has impacted it's cooling ability. We now face the issue of keeping them for the xmas presents.BUT THE GOOD NEWS -we called the company and they immediately told us they would replace 4 of the 6 -excellent public relations.

the MistyMate 17000 Arctic Tie was very helpful in keeping me cooler during a long day of watching pro tennis. I bought onefor a friend & we both were glad I put them in the freezer the night before, as they kept cool longer. the hot weather requiredus to freshen them with cool water during the afternoon, and even that was a help.

Simply put, it just does not keep my neck cool. I was looking forward to it arriving. When I mow the grass I tend to get headaches. My friend suggested I try wetting a towel and wrapping it around my neck. I saw this and thought..that looks like will do a better job staying around my neck than a house towel.I soaked it in refrigerated water. It swells up immediately. I removed the excess water so it would not drip. Tied it on my neck and ...well.. it was not that cool. The water was ice cold that I soaked it in. I went outside and unfortunately, I only had a damp thing around my neck that did nothing to cool me off. Very disappointing. I took it off. Re-soaked it for a longer period of time but it netted the same results. The beads stay swollen for several days, BTW. This surprised me. This also seems to add to the material getting a mildew sort of smell to it.I really wanted this to work but sadly, it did not.

I am so impressed with this product! I am a diabetic on insulin and have a great deal of trouble regulating my blood sugar when I am in the heat. I walk 3 miles a day in my hilly neighborhood and in past years have not been able to walk when it is above 75 degrees as I get too overheated. I saw this product and decided to give it a try. I haven't needed it for a walk yet since it is winter, but the test I did in my kitchen was impressive. When soaked for a few minutes the Misty Mate filled with water and was nice and cold to the touch. I have also ordered a spare so when the first warms up I have a back up. I can't wait to use it when the weather warms up. I see many more walks this summer than in the past!

Unlike the moronic review by the guy who hasn't even used the product but gave it 2 stars anyway, I actually used mine. It does just what it says. The beads swell up and form a tube-like portion that goes on the back of your neck and evaporation keeps you cooler. I'm working in 100 degree weather for 12 hours on a tv show -constant sun baking me, and this bandana, along with good shirts and a hat, have been a godsend. I think this is a great find!

i've seen and have thought about purchasing this type of item many times, but never have. i finally decided to do it, since i'm golfing so much in the heat. anyway, this item is not the typical one you see sold everywhere, with a bunch of beads that soak up the water. haven't used it yet, but checked it out and there's not much in there to soak up water, plus what's in there feels like silica gel. the rock type, not the beads. i have both, to take moisture out of my safe, so i know what they look and feel like. uneven rough corners and uneven size, like rocks. not smooth round balls.

This is awesome! I can go out after cooling the towel in cold water for 3-5 minutes and it lasts for hours. All I have to do is find a sink or water fountain when I am on the go, squeeze lightly to distribute crystals and I am shopping again for a few more hours. This is a must have. DO Not Squeeze the towel too tight as their are crystals in it.
