Trains, girls and action - A surprise hit
This is a review of the blu-ray of Rail Wars. This has 12 episodes on a single disk. There is no English dub just Japanese audio with subtitles (this is no drawback really). The extras are limited and not really worth talking about.Plot - Naoto Takayama loves trains. He really, really, really loves trains. He attends a Japan Rail high-school and wants to be a train driver (engineer). When he's offered the chance of on-the-job training with Japan Rail he leaps at the chance. In a move that won't be too surprising to anyone with military experience, train driving is his first choice, but he gets put into public security. He joins Tokyo region public security team K-4. This team contains Aoi Sukurai (combat girl), Sho Iwaizumi (muscle bound nice guy) and Haruka Koumi (sweet genius). As he is made acting team leader by Nana Lida this is the story of how Takayama deals with his team and the troubles they face as part of K-4.Comments - I first watched this on Crunchyroll and had to buy the blu-ray. The plot may seem routine but the individual episodes are thrilling. This is an episodic series. There's no real over-arching plot arc except for the growth of the team under adversity as they come to understand and appreciate each others strengths and weaknesses. For once the characters are well developed and, at the end of the series you are totally absorbed in them. There are no outrageous, misplaced characters, no screeching lolis just good, well rounded personalities which are believable and engaging. You really want them to succeed and this adds to the tension and thrills as they battle their way through numerous episodes. Given the number of female protagonists who fall for Takayama this risks becoming a harem anime. It doesn't, but its walking a fine line and the scenarios manage to avoid this. There is fan service, and let's face it, the female characters are uniformly pretty and, in most cases, pneumatic. The female protagonists are Nana Lida, Haruka Koumi, Aoi Sakurai, Mari Sassho and Noa Kashima. Each one is worthy of a figurine or two. Aoi in particular would be a great waifu... The fanservice is pitched towards titillation rather than the obvious (High School DxD) and is well done (over done on occasion). The final closing theme is excellent and well worth listening to in its entirety. Is it as good as "Red Fraction'? possibly, YMMV.Summary - This is a surprise hit that deserves a wider audience. The characters are credible and the viewer will warm for them and root for them every time. The perils are perilous and you want the team to succeed each time. Highly recommended.Other things you might like - Wagnaria, Denki-gai, Dog and scissors, Chunibyo, Bakuon, Rosario and vampire, Haven't you heard, I'm Sakamoto, Holmes of Kyoto, Fruits Basket Dr. Stone.

All Aboard!!!
The product arrived in perfect condition. Rail Wars follows a group of 4 trainees of the JNR (Japnese National Railways) and their everyday life, trying to pass every test that is thrown at them in hopes of being members of a JNR security team. Its a comedic series that isn't too grippping or suspenceful and is a nice break from an action filled and dramatic series. It is a little thrilling from time to time, but isnt too serious. It has some fan service and minor adult themes so I wouldn't recommend this for kids. It does only have japanese audio with english subtitles which is a bit of a bummer in my opinion, but it isnt that big of a deal. This contains all 12 episodes of the series on a single Blu-Ray disk with some extras. The mailing process was great and the show is an enjoyable watch.

Bought this with almost no insight to what it was about. The animation hooked me in and everything else just fell into place. Great story and characters make it extremely entertaining.

Weak fanservice, boring story
You know why you’re here. It isn’t for your love of trains. You were given the impression that this would be a bouncy action show with trains. It’s a *boring* semi-bouncy action show with trains. Yes, the waifus are there. Yes, the lewd situations are there. (There’s 1 brief topless scene in total.) But it’s ALL been done better with other shows. I didn’t find myself caring what happened to these generic characters. The MC is a nobody. The harem are pleasant to look at, but aren’t they always? If you want fanservice and a show that’s actually fun to watch, try Golden Boy or Prison School.
