StarTech USB-A 2.0 to VGA Adapter, 1080p, TAA, USB powered (USB2VGAE3)

I've had this now for a couple months. Overall I'm very happy. I'm using this in conjunction with a Rosewill 2-Port USB KVM Switch (RKV-2UC), also purchased from Amazon, and a Dell laptop dock, so the fact that everything is working together makes me quite happy! I did not have any problems installing. Installation was very easy. Since I read beforehand that others had problems during installation, I followed the instructions. I might not have followed the instructions had I not read those other reviews. My only nitpick is that occasionally (once a week or so), I have to unplug and replug the USB cable, or it will not allow the native resolution of the monitor (things will look squished a bit horizontally). Since it's still usable, even that I don't always do. Given my setup, I did not think that warranted a star off of the review. This is setup on the laptop dock for my work computer. Being full-time work and full-time college, I'm on the computer constantly, and take it on and off the dock a couple times a day. In addition, I have a desktop that's going to the same monitor via the aforementioned KVM switch - so replugging in the USB cable is NOT a big deal at all. Again, the fact that it all works together is worth that minimal hassle. This is a great product, and WELL worth the price.

December 26, 2011 update -- My wife got me one for Christmas. After my previous experience below, it was exactly what I wanted. I just tried it (had already loaded the drivers as noted below). It is working great! Hmm-- I have another monitor that I could probably use with this computer.... December 11 2011 update -- as indicated below, the purchase was for the church computer. It has been installed there and was used successfully in the Worship Service today. It continues to be easy to install and reliable. ORIGINAL -- I installed this today. And it worked great immediately following installation. (1) I made sure that the device was not attached to the computer as noted in the guide. (2) I went to Startech.com and clicked on download and drivers, then entered the device name and dowloaded the driver. (3) Then I ran the driver. (4) As noted in the guide, it eventually indicated that I needed to restart so I let the computer restart. (5) I had the monitor and and cable ready but as noted, waited until after the computer restarted -- and I gave it a few minutes so that all applications were up and running. (6) Then I plugged in the usb cable to the computer (7) The screen came on immediately. I did go into the system setup as suggested to review and eventually changed another monitor So now I have (a) laptop screen (b) monitor 2 which is connected to the VGA port on the laptop (c) monitor 3 which is connected through the USB2VGAE3 Each is on and each has different item displaying. I wanted to check this out on my computer before we install it on a laptop at church which is used for morning worship presentations (well it was until we added a new screen which it could not handle). So - it is going to be used there. And probably in a month I will be getting one for myself. And then probably one for my wife. All in all, if it the new one works as well for me as this one has, I would give it more stars than 5. It is nice to have a product that works well right from the beginning. Honestly surprised this worked that well (Win11). I followed the directions and installed the driver before connecting to the machine. It got picked up with 5 seconds after. While I'm sure the video card in this CAN NOT run video at 4k....it does work well for low budget solution vs installing a graphics card. It makes me wonder why high performance versions of this don't yet exist.

Product works great for the application and the drivers/overall software is good. Only issue is that the unit seems prone to overheating during prolonged use, and on overheating will cause the screen to go black, requiring a disconnect/reconnect. Ended up using thermal glue and some copper I had lying around to act as a heat pipe to assist with the issue, but ir could probably also be resolved by removing the case and getting better airflow.

Works right out of the box. Other products I’ve bought on Amazon don’t work as well.

This is an excellent piece of hardware. I used it to install a third monitor on my desktop. Installation was a snap--I downloaded the drivers, restarted my computer, and Windows identified the third monitor instantly. Although I didn't need instructions, it was good to see that the adapter comes with a complete and accurate installation instruction booklet. I highly recommend this device.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I tried two other less expensive options with other brands but this is perfect!

I use this with a Sony Vaio 64 bit W7 Home laptop. I already had a 27" external monitor and wanted to add a 23" monitor. The existing external was my primary monitor, with VGA cable plugged into the VGA external slot. The laptop served as a secondary one off on the side. I had W7 extend the display (nothing duplicated; cursor moves from one to the other). The adapter is now connected to a USB2 hub with several other USB peripherals When this was installed, I didn't have to do any configuration except adjust the brightness and contrast on the 23". W7 detected and added the new monitor, extended the display to it, and left my original external as primary. This isn't a huge deal -- but it's nice -- that a "USB Display (Trigger) Utility" is in the system tray (lower right, primary display) allows you to *quickly* make the adapter's monitor the primary, change ####x#### resolution, and other functions without going to Windows' Screen Resolution utility. I don't do gaming or heavy graphics and animation -- just web, mail, spreadsheets, word processing, stock charts. I'm not seeing any delays that some people report. One note: use the package installation CD *before* installing the latest drivers from startech.com. Because reviews and user documentation said to get the latest drivers from startech.com, I downloaded and installed the latest drivers -- and restarted the machine -- first, before using the installation CD. When I started the install from the CD, the first thing it did was show an uninstall step. So I had to let the installation finish, restart the machine, then reinstall the latest drivers, then restart again. I could have avoided that first restart and saved some time.

Ohne weitere Einstellungen ist der Screen sofort als Erweiterung erkannt und schafft zusätzlich visuellen Platz im Homestudio. Tip-top, ich bin super zufrieden.
