For old school guys....
Indian Head Gasket Shellac. AKA Permatex Aviation Form A Gasket. The 'old guys' introduced me to this when I was teenager.I've been using this stuff for over 50 years on water pump, thermostat housing, and carb/throttle body.Works great with paper gasket.Never leak, easy to scrape off for removal.Easy clean up and can be thinned with alcohol.Brush a bit on one surface and one side of the gasket, let it tack up a little, put a little more on the surface and plop down the gasket. Brush some more on to the second side of the gasket and assemble.

The best sealer that will not leak
I have used paper gaskets for many automotive parts. I have used them with no sealer but would have leaks. I found that a sealer like this Secured my confidence to not do rework on gaskets. The seller did an excellent job packaging this as you see in my picture. My second picture shows how well the sealer worked after I had to disconnect my output pipe on the front of the engine head to replace my fan bracket on thus s10. The gasket was assembled over 6 months ago using same sealer and it split the paper gasket in half shows how well it works to seal stuff. I believe it works as well by itself with gasket but I add it to my paper gaskets anyway. I have also added it to my freeze plug on side of the engine with no leaks as well. Use this stuff with no regrets. The cleaning method for this is scrape most gasket off then wipe clean with brake cleaner or acetone. The worst part is using the included applicator, best advice is use a mini brush like for solder to day on with instead.

This stuff works.
This stuff is old school for gasket install. It is sticky messy, holds and seals new gasket install in place while assembling. It works.

Great stuff
This gasket shellac has been used for years,as a young boy (I’m 70 now) I can remember my father using it when we had our dairy farm, now years later and retired but still working 1-2 days a week repairing lawn equipment for a landscaping company I noticed an old can of gasket shellac that the boss had purchased 25+ years ago and the shellac was still good so I told myself a need to purchase some,I did and I’ve used it and it worked great and it has brought back memories of being on the farm, sounds stupid that a can of gasket shellac would bring back memories but it does, definitely a good purchase .
