Blown away instantly~!
I have a Michael Kelly Dragonfly Fretless 5-string. When I bought it, the previous owner had used the nano-web Elixer strings and while they felt great and had a great, full tone, they were not flats so they ate up the neck, and of course the metal caused that well-known "fretless buzz" you often read about. I had tried out a set of "Swing bass" roto's on my Gibson Ripper and it really brought the vintage tone I knew and loved out of the bass, so when I saw roto made a flatwound set of 5 for acoustic basses....well I knew just the bass for the job!You already read it on every review I am sure, but this string makes a world of difference. The sound is clean and very thick. The nylon adds more darkness in the tone than I'd normally aim to have, but that's why God made EQ, so I adjusted the highs a tad and BOOM: problem solved. They feel beyond smooth, and has I put on the first string and began to set and tune it up, I already could hear the difference and was falling in love with the new sound right away!I use this bass extensively in my jazz combo and these strings are leading a whole new sound that myself, the band, and the audience love! On a side note: cosmetically these strings are perfectly suited for the Michael Kelly Dragonfly neck! The black string against a rosewood fretboard adorned with that stunning mother-of-pearl inlays just really makes the inlays stand out. If your fretboard has any special inlays or anything, these strings make them visually pop!The price was reasonable considering just how specific this bass string functionality happened to be (think about it, what are the odds of finding another 5 set of bass strings suited for a fretless, acoustic bass?! It's not your everyday request so to find such a set of strings was a miracle! They could easily charge $70 and know we'd still buy them)

Awesome tone
Amazing tone. Put them on a 4 string hard tail Super Squire P Bass with all the aftermarket hardware. Turned it into a "BEAD" tuned Bass. Added a Graf-Tec nut and had music store install and file the groves. Strings are fat, new A is larger than old E. Low B is the size of a winch cable! Love it! The nylon tape wrap is so smooth and comfortable to play. Always used Fender flat wounds but no more, these are my strings of choice. BTW, bass is red body, white pick guard and black hardware. Bass looks so cool now and receive comments. Good looking. Awesome tone.

Check your sizes!
Bought these for my 5-string bass. Indeed, they do vastly reduce the noise from sliding--which I do a fair amount in my playing. They were fatter than the strings I was replacing, and didn't fit into the grooves in the nut on the head piece! I suspect this was MY error in size selection, not anything to do with the product per se. So, I moved the strings down one position (E fit into the low B, for example) and they fit. For the G, I just let my old string on (funny look, but I can live with it.)Sound is darker. Indeed, not great for slapping (which I knew going in).Final impressions: If you slide a fair amount, and you make sure you're getting the right sizes, these are fine. The sound will be a bit darker than the metal-wound non-flat types, but that may be fine with your style.

Upright bass replacement
I put these on my jazz bass to play in an amateur big band. I first bought a UBass that I enjoy playing, but it got covered by our drummer who likes to loudly play his bass drum "four on the floor". These strings cut through and actually enhanced the sound of his non-stop bass drum playing. I'd rather have a better drummer, but these did well as a second option. Thumpy and beautiful, but don't expect any sustain.

Great retro sound, fair price
There is an infinitely-expanding discussion on the internet about “tone” when it comes to the sound of Bass guitars. There are only 3 real contributors to tone in an electric bass: (1) the pickups and tone capacitor, (2) the set-up of the guitar [action and distance of strings from pickups], and (3) the strings. The difference between roundwound, flatwound, and Nylon wound is significant, and the Rotosound nylon wound strings always produce a very distinct sound which suppresses the high end response you will get from roundwound strings which cause your bass to sound like an electric guitar. What you also need to know before you buy these is that you may need to play with more Gain on your amp. The nylon coating Mutes these strings, and you will not sound as loud as with even metal flatwound strings.I think it’s a little bit of hype to say these strings make your electric sound like an upright. However, they make your bass sound very much less Metal and more Jazz/Acoustic. The feel great to play and look great to show. I love rotosound strings, and I love these specifically for my 5-string.

Great strings for an upright bass sound on a fretless
I didn't know these were still made! Glad they are. I have a fretless bass and while I don't play much bass now, I played in swing bands and smaller groups. These have a wonderful dark sound to them that can easily be crafted to give a good imitation of an upright bass. On the flip side, they have enough punch so that with the right pickup and tone settings they'll cut through and be heard. Not for everyone or every style, but for what they do they do it wonderfully.

Rooftop concert!

Good strings for traditional Bass thud.
Put these on an old Vox Bassmaster Bass guitar from the 1960's. The strings are coloured coded on the ball ends for identification and the other end is golden yellow silk wound. This thinner silk end fits through the hole in the machine head post adequately. The silk end should be wound around the post only and not the black tape wound area. There should be no silk area over the fretboard. The sound with these strings is good and thuddy and quite close to a double bass sound for a fretted instrument. They are not suitable for slap type Bass playing style. If you want treble toned zing then these are not for you. These have a warm tone for traditional Bass sounds. They are manufactured in the United Kingdom in Sevenoaks Kent are a quality brand and are not cheap as a consequence.

Great deep, punchy sound
After only playing roundwounds, I wanted something jazzier sounding and easier on the fingers for fingerstyle playing. These definitely deliver. Took a bit of getting used to the thick gauge but the nylon is so silky on the fingers that it doesn't bother me. Sound is deep and punchy but if you're after endless sustain look elsewhere. These are designed to sound more like a double bass than an electric bass after all. Macca used 'em on Abbey Road so if you want a deep punchy, jazzy, short sustain sound these are for you.
