Sturdy, plus very easy to clean and use!
A Sprouting newbie, these lids made it REALLY easy to grow a small batch of sprouts in an ordinary 1 Qt. wide-mouth jar! I keep the jar next to my kitchen sink in a small plastic tray. Will start a another batch soon, so growth is staggered.Preliminary overnight soak, then daily rinsing and draining is super easy; don't have to remove the lid for it's 3x/day 10 second rinse, swirl, and flip over to drain. Have not had any mold issues.Good part is that the roots do not get embedded in the screen, so the whole nutritious sprout is available for salads or green smoothies. Clean up is easy.

Easy peasy
I am a sprout beginner. After playing around with this kit, I went on to play around with the two teared seed sprouter kit. I preferred this one. This was because:1) This design is easier to use wash and drain. (It is easier to fill and dump a jar than to pour a cup of water, pop off the upper trays, and then drain the water)2) When the sprouts of smaller variety are still tiny, the whole covering ~3/4th of the surface are small enough to block their escape. (I had to be careful with the tray. Some would wash through).3) Some of the sprouts may try to grow their way through the holes, but you can just consider them as volunteering to be taste-test samples. (In the two teared seed try, almost everything tried to grow into the draining groove. They are harder to extract.)That said, the seedlings are not the prettiest things. They get a bit entangled and need to be given a good shakedown (in water) to remove the floating husks and sunken duds. This jar also needs to be put on top of a plate to catch any draining water.

Lids work fine
although if you've got tiny seeds, you may want to put some super fine mesh over the jar before lidding (I got real fine wedding veil mesh at the fabric store, you can wash and reuse so you don't need much). We've sprouted about 6 jars of sprouts so far, added the sprouts to our salads. It's something we can do to augment our diets since we have no outdoor space and it's often too cool or not sunny here. Just one caution: the silicon gasket/washer that goes inside the lid to seal it up against the glass jar can come out, it isn't glued to the lid. Almost lost one upon opening the box. If you're like us, remember to label your jars with the type of seeds and the date you start the process or it could get very confusing.

I returned this item .
The silicone gasket inside the lid detaches. It flops around and is extremely thin. It will not last. I doubt that it would survive one handwashing.

Love these lids! Have made my life easier!
Bought the metal lids first, after a month of use they began to rust! Purchased the plastic lids, they fit the wide mouth jars well, heavy, durable plastic. Have been using for 2 months now and absolutely love them! The lid has different size draining holes that make it easier to drain the water without draining small seeds, and as they grow the larger hole on the other side allow for faster drainage.
