Road to Power: How GM's Mary Barra Shattered the Glass Ceiling (Bloomberg)

Where's the Beef?
The only thing I learned from this book is that stodgy old GM actually had an effective program for enabling women to demonstrate their abilities. Nothing too radical mind you, because Ms. Barra was still on her own juggling motherhood and work and probably still had to be significantly better than male counterparts. Other than that, here's what you get:1. Mary Barra is really smart.2. Mary Barra gets things done.3. Mary Barra is an excellent communicator.4. Mary Barra is innovative.I didn't need to drop 19 bucks on this book to be told what is already self-evident. I guess I expected a meal, not Lean Cuisine fresh out of the microwave.

Mary Barra's journey to be CEO of GM is well ...
Mary Barra's journey to be CEO of GM is well described in this engaging and very readable book. The reader can understand how the experiences Mary had since joining the company at age 18 contributed to making her the leader GM needs at this time. Companies can learn from the GM people processes and practices described in the book how to identify talent and ensure that individuals (male and female) have the opportunities to develop that talent. Aspiring leaders can learn much from reading about Mary's career.

Very interesting, captivating, and riveting.
I enjoyed the book because she was such an overachiever with regard to every aspect of her life and her career. The fact that she was a woman was interesting but not in the top three or four reasons that I enjoyed the book. I was very impressed with no matter how big or small the detail was in her life she attacked it with such determination to make sure it got done and got done well.

It doesn't go into true detail about Mary Barra's accomplishments ...
It doesn't go into true detail about Mary Barra's accomplishments and places more emphasis on her gender than on her talents.

STEM(science, technology, engineering and maethematics) ”Where 'quality' is our middle name." Howard University , the historically black college located in Washington, D.C., has very good engineering and technology program. But the school had never been on GM's list of places to recruit. She never said anything. Just dead silence.

disappointed
i even forgot to write comments here. i bought this book almost a few months ago and read half of it then left there, because the book only describes the fact or events but no descriptions about Mary Barr's own thought, feeling and even struggling on her way to the power which was what i expected.
