Unbelievably unethical treatment of Professor Tim Noakes, to preserve Big Food's profits.
Professor Tim Noakes was railroaded by Big Food, and all their ecosystem support from (well-funded-by-industry) narratives on diet. Awesome book - you'll feel sorry for the way he was mistreated, but in the end everything worked out. Shame on those who participated in the fraud.

A Long Book + Info on Insulin Resistance
More for the already convinced in the virtues of low carb high fat diet. I have read several books on Keto and this provided me with new information. Concludes that IR, Insulin Resistance, is the great killer in the modern world.A pity that his trial did not take place in the US.Reading Noakes and Nina Teicholz (Big Fat Surprise) one is led to conclude that the vanity of a single man has been responsible for 10’s to 100’s of millions of premature deaths.

The facts speak for themselves.
This is truly one of those books I couldn't put down. The villains are there for everybody to see. When you're dealing with greed, avarice and reputations, people will say and do anything. This book covers every aspect of human nature. You will not be disappointed in reading it.

Interesting and scary read…
What happens when scientists and scholars cozy up to dogma? You get what happened to Prof. Tim Noakes. Scary to think scientists would dogmatically push a diet that seems to be directly related to the dramatic rise in IR and all its attendant diseases.

This large book covers a number of topics, and deserves 5 stars for each them!
"Real Food" is the "Low Carbohydrate High Fat" food-style that Dr Noakes is encouraging in South Africa under the name "Banting". The scientific and historical basis for this food-style is described in depth.During earlier stages of his long and distinguished medical and scientific career Dr Noakes had promoted a "High Carbohydrate" approach. He eventually realised that he had been wrong to do so, and publicly changed his position. (It is rare for a scientist to publicly say "I was wrong for a long time"!)This resulted in a massive backlash from South Africa's dietitians and his colleagues in academia. His statements undermined much of what they themselves were promoting. They launched what was undoubtedly a conspiracy to discredit and silence him and so discredit the "Low Carbohydrate" food-style.His own professional body took him to trial (under oath) to take away his medical license and ruin his reputation.Much of the book describes the trial. The co-author Marika Sboros, an investigative reporter, (with an emphasis on "investigative"), was the only journalist to cover the trial. She experienced barriers to her investigations of what those opposing Dr Noakes didn't want to be investigated!World-class experts on nutrition, (Dr Zoe Harcombe, Dr Carryn Zinn, and Nina Teicholz), flew to South Africa and gave evidence under oath at the trial. The trials' panel found in favour of Dr Noakes on all counts. Then the defeated parties appealed! (And lost the appeal). The book also serves as a partial biography of Dr Noakes. All the components, "Dr Tim Noakes", "Marika Sboros", "Real Food", and "On Trial", are woven together. If it were fiction, it might be thought far-fetched. But it was a real nightmare for Dr Noakes and his family.

Unconscionable behaviour of organisations to support a lie in the face of overwhelming evidence
If you have any interest in the field of human health you need to read this book. It outlines the persecution of a world class scientist who went against the accepted dogma (read unsubstantiated) of the food pyramid supported by western governments and so called health agencies, who are supposed to guide us to a healthy life. This book alone should be enough to get them to change their mind. Unfortunately despite mountains of evidence to the contrary I reckon it will be several decades before this will happen, so educate yourself and save yourself from a slow miserable decline in your health. This book is a deep dive into how these agencies will go to any length to protect their self interest and poor advice. It’s the story of the persecution of Prof Tim Noakes by dietitians, his own university and his governing body, so say for a single tweet. In actual fact it’s seems it is more to do with the success of a diet book, in which he wrote a chapter on the science of the low carb high fat diet. It was the best selling book in South Africa and the people were voting with their health and ignoring the banal advice from the countries misinformed and misguided dietitians. He had to be stopped, seemingly at any cost. A compelling read.

fascinating!
Call me naive, but I used to think that food scientists were all about the evidence and doing their best to help humanity reach their health potential - but this book demonstrates they are just as susceptible to bias as the rest of us - even to the extent of being evangelical in their support of an idea, and suppressing 'talk" (in this case a tweet) that goes counter to their dogma. This book is also full of evidence that is contrary to the dogma currently doing harm to many people. And pushing this argument further, a worrying demonstration of how debate is silenced in our supposedly enlightened age.

You know you're right when they try to shut you up!
Tim Noakes learnt the hard way how vested interests combine to derail 'truth tellers'. It is a very instructive lesson in itself. It is moreso given that Noakes' field of interest is nutrition. There are big guns out there who want to keep us all ignorant. Well done Tim. We're grateful to you for shining light into this dark place.

A MUST READ!!
Everyone should take the time(and make the effort) to read this book. It's a REAL eye opener. Whether you believe in this way of real eating or not, the treatment of Tim Noakes by people who should know better , is nothing short of unbelievable. My wife has been a Nutritional therapist for close to thirty years, it was her who advised me to read this book as it confirmed lots of what she already believed and knew . PLEASE READ.
