Beefy corkscrew, my Wife loves it!!
My Wife asked for a new corkscrew for Christmas, to replace the cheap made in China corkscrew we had in the drawer. This one is the bomb! Very heavy duty, and well-made. Other reviews have stated that the cork is difficult to remove from the corkscrew, but it couldn't be easier. Simply twist the knob the opposite direction, and the cork is discharged from the corkscrew... the fins on the corkscrew hold the cork and keep it from rotating while the screw backs the cork out of the corkscrew. A very clever design, and easy to use! My Wife used to ask me to open her wine for her, not anymore... she loves using this thing!

Fantastic wine opener
Fantastic wine opener. This one is beefier with more leverage than the one it replaced - and that one lasted more than 10 years and outlasted several other fancier openers like rabbits.Simple design with beefy joints and construction. This opener has more leverage than smaller competing designs.Removing the cork is also super easy. There are two edges that hold the cork in the center as you remove it from the bottle. To remove it from the opener leave it wedged by those two edges and unscrew the handle until it is nearly out of the cork. Then push the cork out via the handle and - viola -- it is removed easily.

Best wine opener on the market, hands down.
Of all the wine openers I have ever owned (a lot) this is #1. It is easy to use and works very well owing to sturdy construction. One feature that sets this Kitchenaid opener apart from countless copies are the two inner "wings" located on the legs next to the screw. Those wings grip the cork once it has been extracted and make removing it easy by simply reverse twisting the handle. This is a well thought out design and it shows in every feature. A superb opener.

Screw snapped in half
I carefully researched all the screw-type openers on Amazon before buying. We'd had a screw-type wine opener for more than 20 years that worked great. Unfortunately, we could not find that opener and the first one we bought to replace it looked the same but was made of thin, light metal that easily bent, failing on its third use. I researched again and bought this one for its apparent robustness. Two problems: the screw's tip was not concentric to the centerline of the opener and did not enter the cork dead-center. This led to the screw being difficult to start and - despite efforts to prevent it from happening - the screw entered the cork at a slight angle. Because of this misalignment, the screw snapped in two after approximately 10 uses. Photo attached. The second design problem was the black nose collar is too deep and the few times the opener did work, a pair of pliers was needed to grab the end of the cork so you could begin to wind it off the cork. Two design problems in one device; a device that had decades-ago been successfully made by others.

KitchenAid Gourmet Winged Corkscrew
This product exceeded my expectations, as most Kitchen Aid products usually do ! EXCEPTIONALLY well constructed, easy to operate and FAST ! My favorite feature is the cork capturing wings, which hold the cork once removed so you merely unscrew the cork screw and the cork falls out .. NO More fighting to retrieve the cork !

Our Favorite Wine Opener
We have tried a lot of different wine openers, but this style is our favorite. It is so easy to use, and for anyone who is new to drinking wine or opens bottles (aside from the now-popular screw tops) of wine so seldomly that corks are a threat, this wine opener makes the process fool proof.

Failed device. Maybe a lemon?
Upon unboxing this bottle opener, the build quality seemed exceptional. Very solid construction and nice materials. I used this product twice. During the first use, one of the arms ended up slightly out of sync with the other. I noticed this, but it still seemed usable. The second time the arms ended up completely out of sync. There is nothing that I can do to synchronize the gearing again. There is some magic angle at which these arms' gears are allowed move in ways they shouldn't be allowed. Neither bottle of wine was out of the ordinary, this thing just failed.
