Q: Only used about 1/5 of one bar for an entire xl carhartt. i rubbed the bar on good before using a heat gun to melt it in. did i do it wrong?

No. I usually rub in a 3rd of a bar, melt it in, then rub it in again. Some fabrics soak in more wax than others. Depends what you want from the wax. Will one light coat help shed water. Yes. Will it protect you during a full down pour....no.

Not once it's cooled. My dogs hair sticks to everything BUT my waxed jacket. Just make sure it doesn't get embedded in the molten wax while you're applying it

Q: Any feedback for use on Filson tin or shelter cloth waxed coats?

Our wax works AWESOME at reproofing factory-waxed or oiled fabrics. I suggest the bars for re-waxing Filson tin/shelter cloth. A little will go a long ways since the fabric is already relatively saturated with wax, so you'll just need to create a little bit of friction by rubbing the bar back and forth. You'll instantly notice the cloth start to regain it's waxy shine. Once you've rewaxed the jacket, leave it to hang dry for a couple of days, this will allow some of the oils to dissipate and reduce tack.
