Review and install instructions
I was sceptical buying this, $100 isn't something to just throw away especially when you're only car is a 98 xj sport.... That being said I couldn't be happier with this product. I read all the reviews I could and did as much research as possible on this and decided on a way of installing it that uses some of the suggested methods. I will admit I did not use an instructions or any of the hardware included. I only spent $14 on all the required installation materials and it was worth it.So to start you will need the following materials.1. 5, 1/4" screws that sit flat with nuts2. 10, 1" wide washers with 1/4" hole3. 3 cans of "Great Stuff" for windows and doors (very important since it does not buldge it will not push your trim out when it cures)4. A drill with a 1/4" drill bit5. A Philips screwdriver or bit attachment6. Some sort of clamp I used my jumper cable (to hold the seatbelt from retracting)7. Packing tape or double sided tapeAs you can see in the pictures below I tried to ease the headache of installation for future buyer's.Start by removing the 3 screws holding the pannel to the frame of the tail gate. Then remove the 5 or 6 screws holding the bottom trim that overlaps it. Just pull up on the bottom piece. For the trim where the box goes you will have to pull out from the bottom then lift up since it goes over the metal between the window. Once pulled out pull the seat belt out as far as it will go and take your clamp to hold it at the base so it will not retract. Now the fun, take that foam they give you and the smaller square piece cut it into 3 equal sized chunks. You'll want to take your double sided tape and put it on the box now around the edge that goes in the stock cut out. Wrap the foam all the way around it. I did not have double sided tape I only had packing tape and I just held one piece on taped all the way around then added a piece and went around again till it was covered. Now shove it into the trim that you took off and flip it over. Drill out 5 holes as pictured and put the screws in from the inside in this order. Screw then washer then put in the hole then washer then nut. Tighten down as much as possible by hand (with a ratchet and socket).Once that is done lay it flat and cover with the "Great stuff" as pictured. Use the remaining (approx can and a half) "Great Stuff" and fill the hole. I did shove a piece of egg crate foam that was laying around in the hole before filling with "Great Stuff". Helped save some money but you could buy a 3rd can for about $3.At this time you want to put your speaker wire in the little hole at the bottom of the box, give yourself plenty of slack.Let set for about 10 minutes then push it into place. You want to do this now before the foam sets and doesn't form right. Once in put your screws back and install your sub.If you have any questions feel free to ask.

good product, decent fitment
good product, decent fitment, the insulation it came with was nearly useless, i powerhoused it into place using brute force and it seemed like overkill, did an install without it. Retested it and no problems without the insulation, I also wish it came with pre drilled holes for mounting, once its in place trying to locate the best place to mount screws is not extremely apparent.it's a decent product, fits the spot well, looks almost factory. and holds a really deep 8. I recommend skar or sundown audio, with that and a mono block amp the subwoofer will literraly move the truck (not shake) im talkin actual movement. you can feel the percussion from right to left when the sub hits deep lows.(related, but not in regards to the product being sold)however the jeep is not very acoustic so it will not hold the sound well. I recommend dyno matting the entire truck front to back. That may sound daunting but I can assure you, anyone with a drill and some basic hands tools could pull it off in a day or two.it would also be nice

Meh
Kinda disappointed with this. Out of the box it seemed pretty nice, but after I installed it (followed the directions to the tee) It didn't fit all that well, and it rattles horribly. I think I can mess with it a bit and make it work, but after spending that kind of cash, I shouldn't have to.

Does what its supposed to with a few caveats
This pod is made of Solid thickness plastic, is formed and contoured pretty well to the xj interior location no problem. This overall is a good product if you know how to work around problems caused by the manufacturer. This is the only reason I give 4 stars! If I'm paying 120 plus for a chunk of plastic I wouldn't expect to have to do ANY extra work, In other words were this priced more realistic at say 59 dollars I could give it a 5.Installation: as others have already said here, just take that grey egg crate stuff they send you and throw it in the trash, use it to sound proof your bedroom , whatever, cause it's just gonna be a nuisance to you to use it here! What you wanna do on that part of the install is this. You should have bought two things to do this install with ,1 bag of poly fill found in the arts and crafts section and one can of great stuff expanding foam.Take your interior panel that this pod mounts in off the vehicle, for that matter just unnattach it you don't even need to do much besides pull it away enough to take that spray foam around the perimeter of the back your plastic panel then stuff half the bag of poly fill plus or minus between the panel and the vehicle body and remount the panel quick before the expanding foam dries (tip use the big gap filler not the normal stuff)Then when all that's done spray the BACK of the entire perimeter of the cubby hole area where your xjpod will go in. Note : do not spray foam toward the front you will end up squeezing the spray foam out if you do that and then squueze the xj pod in just put the exp foam at the rear. Now you can put your xj pod in place before the exp foam dries, and it will dry quick like 5 mins! You DONT EVEN NEED THE SCREWS THAT THEY SUPPLY WITH THIS IF YOU USE EXPANDING FOAM. Expanding foam can hold hundreds of pounds in place if it dried on each surface in a large enough area, this stuff is tuff. However for good measure I used them in the sequence they suggested.I haven't had the first rattle whatsoever and I have an above average sub with an above average amp on mine. So if you instsll it like this I promise you won't have any rattles either. If people can't figure that out you shouldn't be installing in the first place though.
