Tomita Nisaku Sickle Hoe (NejiriKama)

When I came across this tool, it looked to me like it would indeed be good for weeding, but I had never used one so I wasn't sure. After purchasing and using it, it has met and exceeded my expectations. The overall quality of the tool is very good for the cost; good finish on all surfaces, really nice weld for the blade, comfortable handle, lightweight and nimble overall. It is sturdy as well. The blade is sharp but could be razor sharp if you wanted. It's very satisfying to see how fast and easy it removes the soil and weeds by scalping off a layer. The tapered tip allows a precise cut when necessary. You might want to wear gloves because the tip can come back and poke your hand, etc. It's pretty sharp for what it is and should be used with care.Overall this is a must have for any gardener and makes weeding a breeze.I'll update and say I've used this tool a good number of times this year; I've run it through red clay with a fair share of grit and rocks and have yet to have any blade chipping. I do recommend using something like this a day or so after it has rained, as it's much easier to weed and usually easier on the tool.

I can't say enough good things about the Nejiri hoes! I've tried three different brands offered on Amazon and each one of them proved to be worth 5 stars!! This particular one I thought was well-weighted as a hand tool and when you're using them for any length of time you know why that's important. I'd say it's quite comfortable for my little hand.The reason I purchased different ones is because our dayliy club has raffles at our Regional as well as our regular club meetings and each time I bought one I ended up bagging it up to raffle off until finally I decided to keep one and actually got to use it! Wow--this tool cuts underneath the weeds like a hot knife through butter and I've said the same on another review because I want you to get the visual as it's more than accurate as to what this hoe can do!! The blades are "super-duper" sharp so be careful! What I do when I'm in the garden and not using it at that moment is to drive the point into the soil so there's no accidents. It's not meant to be left lying around so be mindful of that if you have any little ones or inquisitive pets like my two puppies, although they know they're not allowed in Momma's flower beds...Honestly, I am thrilled to have found these Nejiri hoes and I can't imagine anyone who gardens with any frequency not loving them too!!!Happy Gardening!!

The media could not be loaded. The Tomita Nisaku Sickle Hoe is a great little tool for quickly clearing out weeds in smaller gardens. It has a very sturdy feel and the blade is razor sharp. The product came with a clear plastic blade cover with metal snaps to hold it in place. If you are hoping to clear out large garden beds I would recommend a similar product with a longer blade and handle but for smaller jobs this will definitely do the trick.I used it after a period of rain and even though soil started to clump around the blade it still managed to slice right through grass and weeds both small and large with thicker stems without disturbing the top soil too much.Time will tell how durable this garden sickle is but at first glance the weld holding the blade in place seems to have a strong bond. I chose this product after reading reviews from competitor brands complaining of small weak welds with the blade falling off after moderate use. I will update my post if I encounter any issues however as of now I would certainly recommend this product.

2021: I will be upfront and say this tool just arrived yesterday but it was a GAME changer for the heavy Oklahoma clay “soil” we have here! Pulling weeds has been crazy painful (I have Rheumatoid Arthritis - RA - and Lupus so my hands struggle anyway). I used it yesterday around my tree beds and flower bed to not only weed but loosen the mulch that has become near cement, loosen soil, and help me work fertilizer into the top bit of the soil. I also used it to cut some of my ornamental grass that needs to be cut almost to the soil once per year in early spring. Pruners got the cut a little more clean but it totally cut big handfuls no problem. This is going down as my first favorite garden tool with my full tang hari hari knife in second place.TLDR: Great for weeding (watch a couple of review videos for technique), loosening soil and mulch, spreading mulch and fertilizer, and even some plant cutting.2024 update: I absolutely can’t garden without this. It’s an absolute game changer in weeding especially in clay and for those with arthritis (osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis) or Lupus.

I had something like this years ago from Smith and Hawken. Don't know why it took me so long to get another one, they do a great job on weeds. However, this one has such a short handle you have to really get down there to get the job done. I cut the old handle off, bought a replacement rake handle, and used epoxy to secure the blade (and stem) into the new handle. You have to bend a bit to get the angle right, but beats crawling around. Four stars instead of five only because of the silly short handle. Very sharp, useful for any gardener...

Das Gartenwerkzeug, welches umgehend viele andere ersetzte. Klein, leicht und sehr vielfältig im Einsatz.Nach einigen Tagen im Garteneinsatz möchte mann es nicht mehr missen. Sehr gutes Produkt zum guten Preis.

Désherbage précis entre les salades, pieds d'haricot, de courges.....Et tellement tranchant que il a remplacé ma rasette....Très efficace, léger, maniable....Deviendra surement mon outils num 1 au potager !!

切れがいい。軽くすべらすだけで雑草がきれいになくなります。立って作業をしたいので長いものを探してましたが長くなると結構 力がいるので、短くてもいいのかも。

These are the best weeding tool! This one is rather smallish but does the job. Japanese weeding Sickles come in many varieties but look for good quality ones that are made in Japan!!
