Going to take a shot here and mention reduction slip nuts...
I couldn't help but notice when purchasing this ninety-plus dollar trap on Amazon, that this model 8998 (1-1/4 inch) had four "like new" to choose from in the Amazon Warehouse "used" category, at about 70% savings, versus the 8999 model (1-1/2 inch) which didn't. My conclusion? Many returns of the 1-1/4 inch model in exchange for the 1-1/2 inch trap, due to folks getting these and thinking they don't fit their 1-1/2 inch trap adapters. If that's the position you find yourself in, take advantage of this value -- hit your local plumbing supply and ask for a 1-1/2 to 1-1/4 reducing slip nut -- where the drain pipe enters the wall. That's all that's needed to securely couple a 1-1/4 inch drain pipe to the 1-1/2 inch drain pipe in your wall. (Your system may be ABS instead of copper, but your plumbing supply can help you out with the correct part.)This trap is solidly built and nicely chromed, and looks the part for a sink that has exposed plumbing (especially if your decor clashes with the modern appearance of a bottle trap). I cringe when I see a beautiful pedestal or wall-mounted sink with a white plastic trap underneath. You'll want an inexpensive slip nut wrench for the installation, since most adjustable wrenches won't open wide enough, and pipe wrenches will potentially mar the shiny finish. The cleanout plug is a nice touch since the two chrome nuts are likely to scuff if repeatedly contacted with a wrench (do use a rag).Ensure your sink's tailpiece extends down to at least the level of the wall inlet, and that it's within a foot of the wall, for this trap to work. And, unlike plastic pipe, I'm betting this material won't tolerate extended contact with harsh chemicals, so treat it with due care (and the heavy brass construction ought to beat the pants off the cheap pot-metal stuff.Another winner from Kohler, and even better when scored at a significant discount from Amazon's Warehouse returned-goods affiliate.

EXCELLENT CONDITION AND SAVED A BUNDLE
I WANT to apologize to the seller as I thought the first P trap they sent to me was the wrong model number so I ordered a second one. $10.00 less also!!! It was the same as the first ,,well then I looked at the specs for the K8998 that I wanted which I should have done before I ordered the second one. Well, it was the correct one after all, so now I had two. Sending one back but both are well worth the buy as a brand new one is $150 through Amazon new, and these look new and never used, original Kohler packaging, and costs $34 and $23 dollars!!!! You certainly cannot beat that. Through Kohler , this trap is $274.00!!!!!!! Love Kohler products ,,but save where you can. !!!!!

Looks great. Difficult to install.
I am not a professional plumber, but the o-ring that connects the trap to the horizontal pipe is nearly impossible to seat correctly and even when it is seated, tightening the nut causes it to shift. Again, I’m not a plumber, but I’ve installed p-traps many times without issue. This thing leaks at every joint.

Improves the look of a visible P-trap
If your P-trap is visible and there are no other options, then this really improves the look of your renovation. My plumber commented on the quality construction and had no difficulty installing it. I thought the price was reasonable, given the brass construction.

Costly but handsome and heavy duty
Yes, they do make plumbing fittings like they used to. Costly but handsome and heavy duty.

supplied o-ring does not seal flange
finish of the product was nice however the o-ring that was provided does not fit nor does it seal the pipe. the sealing surface of the pipe was not perfectly made so the pipe would mot seal. the supplied o-rind would not fit the groove in the pipe making it useless when combined with the uneven pipe sealing surface. the plumber I hired gave up trying to get it to seal after 2 hours of trying different ways to fix the issue!

Five Stars
These are about as high of quality as they come!

Not as good as it looks in the photos
The finish on this P-Trap is just OK, but it's not great. Some additional polishing prior to chrome plating would have been helpful. The roughness of the finish is not visible in the online photographs.
