Not the perfect case, but pretty close
There is no such thing as the perfect device case. That's a reality I've had to accept over the last 3 months of buying and returning many different device cases. But there are a few key characteristics that I look for when judging cases, and the Poetic Slimline performs the best overall.1. Thinness: When compared to the Apple Smart Case/Cover, this case looks and feels thinner. The Apple case has a "lip" all the way around the front where the cover connects to the back to keep the case closed. It looks nice, but can be unpleasant to hold because of the lip. The Poetic case doesn't have any such lip. The Poetic design helps the iPad look cleaner and thinner in the case.2. Finish: The Apple Smart Case/Cover has a premium leather finish that is undeniably hard to beat. But the Poetic case has a faux leather finish that looks almost as good. And it actually feels better to the touch than the Apple case. It is smooth, and feels durable and comfortable. The back of the Poetic case has plastic components, which give it a less premium feel. But those parts are minimal and still feel solid and durable.3. Cost: This one is a no-brainer. The Apple smart case costs $80 and this case costs $5-10 (depending on when you bought it). Much better value for your money.4. Function: This is the most tricky category. No case provides every function perfectly. In my use of the iPad, the case needs to be able to sit up at a slight angle for note-taking or reading during classes and meetings. It also needs to be able to sit upright for "passive viewing" (i.e. Netflix). I don't need multiple upright viewing angles - but if that's what you're looking for, this is not the case for you (Poetic has another case that provides multiple upright angles but no note-taking angle; you may consider looking at that one). Otherwise, I don't need a stylus holder or any pockets for paper storage or anything else; just a case that protects my iPad and looks nice. And this Poetic case does all of those things perfectly well. I've read in other reviews that people have scratched their iPads taking them in and out of this case. I could see that happening, given the snug fit of the case. But my recommendation: leave the iPad in the case. That's why I bought it.I've also read in other reviews that the cover on this case doesn't fold as smoothly or easily. I would agree with that concern, except I would add that I like the rigidity. Sure, it's not as pliable as a piece of paper, but again, that's why I bought it. You need to try the cover to fold over, but then the magnets in the case hold the fold well. In my 2.5 months of using this case, the cover has never come undone or made my iPad fall. And when the cover its closed, its rigidity and the magnets keep the case firmly shut.In every other way, this case is great. Every opening is perfectly sized and well-made. The charger cutout is just the right size for the conventional Apple charger or even a slightly thicker third-party charger. All of the buttons are exposed, which I personally prefer because they are easier to access and push. If you're worried that your 3-year old is going to damage the iPad buttons or corners, then here's a better solution: don't give your 3-year old a $500+ toy.In summary, this may not be the perfect case, but it's pretty close. I would definitely recommend this to most users. At $5-10, it's a steal and, if you still don't like it, Amazon (as usual) will take it back and keep you happy.

Great case!
A lot of the negative reviews seem to be for the iPad Mini version so be sure you read the relevant reviews for the product you're buying.I received the revised model for the iPad Air with the corrected wake/sleep magnets and I'm very satisified. The cover magnets are strong enough to hold the cover in place in the closed position. The case fits perfectly and unlike some other snap-on cases that grip only by the corners, this one grips by the two corners on the left-hand side as well as all along the entire right-hand edge. That combined with the microfiber lining on the shell and the lining on the cover make for a very solid feel with no flex or wiggle.Hard to describe but it doesn't feel like an iPad in a case -- it feels like one solid piece. A good comparison would be that it feels like holding a nice hardcover book.I had a coworker ask to see my Air for the first time and after examining it for about a minute commented on how nice the case was.Other people have commented on the smell but I'm thinking that might have been for a different model. This one for the Air has no noticeable smell at all.The cover can be folded either with the microfiber on the outside or on the inside and that gives two very slightly different upright viewing angles. In typing-mode, the cover really only stays in position with the microfiber on the outside so you only get one typing angle. The speakers are protected without being obstructed and I don't notice any sound loss. The camera and headphone holes are generously sized and I don't see any problems for larger sized headphone plugs. All holes, including the rear microphone hole are perfectly centered and nicely beveled. The only improvement I could see would be the addition of a metal strip or magnet in the rear shell to hold the cover in the folded-back position.

Lightweight in both feel and promises
This case is lightweight, feels good in the hands, and installation is as easy as described; just push the iPad gently into the inside and listen for the snaps. Thats about all the good I can actually think of for this product, however. This case's advertising is very, very misleading. The description states that it provides a "secure closure" to the iPad for the auto wake and sleep functionality. What it actually does is lay limp and lifeless across the face of the iPad like a drunkard on the floor at the end of a Christmas party, doing no one any real good whatsoever. When I read "secure closure," I thought that it meant that there were magnets in the corners of the cover that would provide a secure closure of the cover to the face of the iPad and actually protect the screen from scratches while traveling, like almost all iPad portfolio type cases provide. I was sorely mistaken. If you just want a cheap, lightweight yet relatively good looking case for your iPad Air, then sure it will probably make you very happy. If your looking for a case that will actually do what it promises to do and actually provide a secure closure of the lid to the screen of the iPad, then no, this case will make you very angry and, given that the lid does not provide secure closure, this does not bode well for the iPad.The only thing thats providing me "secure closure" in this transaction is that Amazon has a wonderful returns policy and I will be getting a full refund for the item so that way I can find an iPad portfolio case that does work as it should.
