It was both the best and worst possible time for such an injury. On one hand, I had nowhere to go. On the other hand, it was brutal to lose my mobility and the one form of exercise (running) available to me at the time. I also wasn't going anywhere near an ER or a doctor's office in March 2020.I ended up rehabbing on my own with the help of YouTube, Google, resistance bands, and a handy device called the Foot Gym. At first, I used an ACE ankle brace that I already had on hand. Imagine my disappointment when I reinjured my now much weaker ankle on a neighborhood walk about a month into my recovery. It was so painful I had to sit on a curb and call my wife to come pick me up. That was my low.This Zamst brace provided the support, stability, and comfort I needed to get better. I ordered several different options from Amazon, including one that looked like a less expensive knock off of this product. None of them came close to the Zamst. Yes, it's expensive. I too was pretty hesitant to drop this much $ on an ankle brace. How much do you value your mobility? For me, it was totally worth it and I regret not pulling the trigger earlier.Putting it on takes some getting used to. It's very well designed, but not necessarily intuitive. Review the instructions. Don't try to wear it to sleep and make sure you combine it with ankle PT & ice/heat. It took me a few months, but I eventually got back to running & hiking - at first with this brace on at all times to avoid reinjury. In the process, I learned how important it is to maintain good ankle strength/mobility + stabilizer muscles to avoid future injuries. Resulted in an open weeping sore, akin to a pressure blister type of thing, that made it nearly impossible to use the walking boot.So, I am trying this after reading the reviews, and hoping it will be the answer for my final transition to healing, and maybe some questionable more strenuous activity.Follow up after receiving and discovering my shin/calf/ankle is just big and I should have gotten the next size up (Large instead of Medium once again), but no Worries here, as of course I could do a modification in the upper / lower neoprene outer material, to make the hook to loop area work as needed.After walking/ a block or so, and standing talking to folks for awhile, and than driving to a few places and shopped, I returned to my Custom Sewing shop and sat for about an hour or so at my sewing machine working on client projects.The brace remained comfortable, and feels well braced and lateral movement is indeed controlled, my ankle did not turn sideways in such a manner that I could have damaged tender skin, or would cause concern of my recent Achilles Tendon surgery I am recovering from. When I rose to stand or began walking, my footing and gate seems improved, as is crouching or stooping, to pick something up off the floorI like the way this brace works and would have preferred this over the walking boot I was given to wear post surgery.Compression is good, comfortable, and I can recommend this product with confidence to anyone who suffers from weak ankles, or has had Ankle surgery, or is recovering form sprains and such; or just getting ready to go out and do something you may find hard on your ankles. This can be worn with a hiking boot or hi-tops.Note: Make sure you get the \"right size\", and take into consideration the size of your calf and ankle while maybe partially swollen.
