Excellent Amp for The Price
Ok. The SMSL sAp II headphone amplifier. If you are looking for an inexpensive amp with audiophile quality sound… this your amp. The sound reproduction on this little thing is phenomenal! When you listen to music you have listened to forever, and plug this thing in and listen… and find yourself being moved as if you have never heard the music before, then you know the sound quality is good. The highs are crisp, yet very smooth with a nice high end range. The bass actually comes out nice. Punchy where it is supposed to be and mellow also in the right places. The mids are excellent…very well balanced. As far as noise or distortion, I can’t really hear anything. (In my searchings before buying this I wanted to know the THD. I came across a spot on line that claims the unit has 0.001% though it didn’t tell me the wattage used for the testing.. So, I can’t confirm it. IF I can hear in classical pieces moving and shuffle and clicks of the keys of woodwind instruments, very distinctly, then that is great. The sound is not fatiguing at all. When I first plugged it in, I found myself listening for a good couple hours… Things of other note. On one review the poster claimed that the L & R channels were reversed. My unit is not. Also, there is a glowing ring around the volume control so when you turn the unit on, you will know that it has power. The only drawback is not the unit itself but the fact that it is imported from China. SMSL is a Chinese company, so it imports directly from China. So, it takes a quite a while to get in. Luckily for me, it shipped in a couple of days air mail and I received in 10 days. Hopefully you will have the same luck I did. Overall… for $60 the amp sound like it should be in $200-300 range. So, if you are audiophile on a budget… you can’t go wrong with it…

very good potential, need amplification improvement ...
Tiny but with strong appearance, very good fabrication quality.About the performances the sound has a very good quality, transparent and detailed; lacks on low signal amplification, it needs a strong signal to work fine, the monitor audio out of my Marantz is not enough to develop the potential; therefore it is not loud enough for my Beyer-dynamic and Sennheiser headphone, but finally does the work connected to a more powerful output. I think it need an improvement on line input signal amplification that is the source it is mostly to be used.

The SMSL sAII Pro TPA6120A2 Big Power (Silver FP) HP Amp had good reviews, was in stock
This HP Amp was delivered on time, undamaged, and performed beyond my expectation. I seriously considered the JDS Labs O2, because of the many positive reviews I read. The custom configuration, and expedited delivery was near $200 from JDS Labs (Which I was willing to pay). The SMSL sAII Pro TPA6120A2 Big Power (Silver FP) HP Amp had good reviews, was in stock, and would be delivered at less than 1/2 the price of the O2. I decided "Why not", if it's sub-par, I'll order the O2.I'm very pleased with my choice. I tested the power adapter output (+24.09vdc un-loaded), the RCAs and 3.5 mm inputs were wired correctly, there is no discernible difference in signal detail from my Emotiva DC-1 source DAC, no noise whatsoever with the volume control at Max / no signal input, and finally, no excessive heat detected (None really) after several hours of listening. Caution, this HP Amp gets really loud!I'm buying another for my gaming PC. Serious "Audio Bang" for the Buck!

Hmmm....Garbage
Sounds ok when it works. When I turn it off then back on the Amp will flicker and sound will cut in and out. Then will just start working out of nowhere. Made a gamble on the purchase and came out on the losing end. Don't waste your money. Look elsewhere.

Buzzing at high volume.
It does what it says it will do. It can really crank the volume on your headphones. The problem is that if the volume is high you will get a loud buzzing sound between songs or if your reading something online that has no audio you will still hear that buzzing sound. I have to keep mine set to level 3 to get better volume without the buzzing. I use it with my Audio-technicas.

SO FAR SO GOOD!!!
So far I like it very much. It made a huge difference with my Audio Technica ATH-ad900x which for a while I thought they were bad..lol! This amp murders my previous Behringer HA-400 four way headphone splitter amp. Now this makes me wonder how much better will those really expensive tube amps sound like. I just hope it doesn't go kaput on me in a 1 month or so...lol.Also the build quality seems pretty good. I'm tempted to crack this baby open and see the quality of the innards but that will void the warranty if I do. I will eventually do it down the road.update:to tell you the truth, I had my reservations about this amp at the beginning but I tell you it's an excellent product and it sounds amazing. I don't even recognize my ath-ad900x anymore.....it made that much of a difference for the good. As long as it lasts, it's best for the money.

Super Teil

SMSL SAPII TPA6120A2
Great value for money and excellent sound*.Drives Sennheiser HD414 (2kOhms) with ease and AKG K612 (120Ohms) sound excellent too.4 Stars because:The delivered switched power supply spoils the sound quality, the midrange is harsh.*/ With a good _linear_ power supply (24Vdc, 150mA) the midrange is smooth and also prolonged listening a pleasure.Using the original power supply the unit gets quite warm after a while, running it at 20Vdc reduces heat with no detriment to sound quality.
