New Practical Chinese Reader, Workbook Vol. 2

One of the best Chinese learning book brands I've used. In the earlier levels, the pinyin and tones are written in and although you might enjoy it while learning, it will hurt you in the long run. Different volumes eventually pull you away from using pinyin and tones and transition to just characters, however it's a little slow. Now that I have reached an advanced level, looking back it may have been easier to avoid looking at the tones after the first volume.Nonetheless, the book is great. It covers a wide variety of important words and chengyu (common phrases). Some of them may seem odd, but when you go to China or speak with someone, they'll come in handy.

Learning chinese in school. Used from general high school to lower college level classes. Very effective for my purposes, and the specific book places the user at about a kindergarten to first grade level of Chinese. Highly recommended for beginners without prior background in the language, as well as good for those with it (often I find people who can speak a little chinese have no idea how to write the characters they are saying and thus would be good for them too).

This is a great set of books if you are serious about learning Chinese. It starts with the fundamentals and builds week by week. The workbooks gives plenty of practiceto really compound what you are learning, but you do need to get a hold of the audio CD to go with it so that you can do the exercises, however this is available in most instances to download.

It was used as textbook. It was received in good quality and served its purpose. I did not see any missing or damaged pages.

It was required for class.

Although the topis are based on situations for university students, the book covers the 4 main skills (writing, reading, speaking and listening) in a very good way. The authors should include colorful photos in order to offer a more attractive material though.

generally a good book but it is very difficult to study after having finished the first volume because the transition from Vol1 to Vol2 is very sudden and does not include pinyn. Also the presentation of the grammar is very unfriendly and difficult to follow.

Great content, especially if you like a structured and logical approach to learning a new language.
