As others have said - it is well made and it is not small. It is a great lamp. As large as it is - I wish the bulb shroud were deeper. The end of a 60w equivalent CFL sticks out and is annoying to others in the room. To be fair - it is designed for incandescent bulbs - but they are now evil, and harder to find. There is a giant aluminum heat sink in the head which is why it could handle the rated 100 W bulb. But a redesign specifically for CFLs would be great. The goseneck is firm but adjusts very smoothly and quietly (I purchased the rockler lamp also and the goseneck creeks really loudly when you move it)

I have only written a few reviews here on Amazon but I had to take the time to write one for this product. In a world of cheap poorly made, poorly engineered lighting and similar products, here we have an outstanding product at a great price. You can pay much more and get something good and I own some of those products and I am happy with them. With this one, I paid less and stumbled into one of the best kept secrets in task lighting. I work and repair clocks and watches as a hobby and also work with a lathe and so I need focused bright illumination in my work area, especially because I have 40 something eyes and wear progressives. This light is solidly built, it feels like the way they were made 75 years ago, it has heft, strength, it's well machined, and sends-off a real feel and look of high quality. The Danray light takes a 100 watt bulb and I put an energy saver one in there and it's great. The heat disappation fins at the top of the lamp are top-notch engineering. The switch is perfectly placed and quality. The snake arm is hands-down the finest one I've ever used. You can move and direct this light with precision anywhere you want to. If you are frustrated looking for a quality light you can use for a hobby or any form of detailed work, or you just need a great desk light that you can focus down onto a book or anything where for your needs you need very bright quality light, this product will make you very happy.

This item was too big, I wanted something smaller to use as a headboard reading lamp. I don't have any thing else to say

What can I say that tops the other three reviews?Not much! Except, I also bought two dimmers for my two Danray lamps (Amazon: Lutron Electronics Plug-In Lamp Dimmer, Brown #TT300H-B, rated at 300 watts to easily handle a 100 Watt lightbulb). The dimmer controls the amount of light on my keyboard, book, printout, audio equipment, bookcase, wall...even set it really dim as a PC Room night-light.You will need a three-wire to two wire plug adapter (go to Lowes, 65 cents) to plug the Danray into the dimmer and the dimmer into the wall receptacle (don't use this plug adapter in a workshop where all of your tools must be grounded).Danray knows how to invent superior products. The shade is ONLY warm to the touch after hours of operating at the full 100 Watts. Really great! This lamp is also available with a magnetic base (100 pounds holding force) for a work/machine shop.

I bought this lamp based on the favorable reviews and have just tossed it in the trash. The neck is so stiff it takes strength and two hands to adjust it. It is not as flexible as it claims and is difficult to "aim" the light.The clamp base is much too narrow to support the weight of the lamp and stiff neck so that when adjusting it, the clamp slips and comes off its perch. It just fell to the floor, again!, and broke a new bulb.I'll find a cheaper lamp that is more cooperative.

I own three of the Danray lamps because I love them! I have one by my bed, another at my desk and a third I've been using at a table for jigsaw puzzles. I've owned them for four or more years without a bit of trouble. The arm is stiff so you can bend it the way you like and it will stay where you want it. I love the switch! It has a definitive snap that gives me confidence it will last. The only con is the price and the price has gone up dramatically since I purchased the last one four years ago. But if it lasts then it's worth it.

I'm a nail tech and I was looking for a good table light. For me, most manicure table lights tend to get in the way. The necks aren't adjustable, the dome seems to be right in front of my face and they get too hot. I was looking for a gooseneck but couldn't find the right one until I saw this. It was love at first sight. I read all the reviews and figured if it was good enough for all the guys using it, it should hold up for me. As one review stated, I haven't seen one made of this quality in years. A plus for me was the C clamp; being a lefty, I can put it anywhere that's comfy for me. Well worth the cost!

I've looked at extension, swing arm, and snake arm lamps with great disappointment at the quality and lack of durability- until receiving this lamp. It is heavy duty and made well. When my husband opened the box at Christmas, being a man of few words, he said with genuine appreciation, "this is a goooooood lamp." The intended use is for my husband's workshop. The snake arm is very stiff (you don't just tap it to adjust it slightly), but it does ensure the lamp stays put and secure while working. We were very pleased with the product.
