Can i fit a lampshade?

This can fit lampshades, Most get stuck removing the top section after a 1/3 turn. If you look inside get a pen ( non metal object) and press down on the golden tab stopping it from turning and it should come right off easily.

Where is the switch located? At what Distance on the 2m one

They seem to put the switch in the middle, regardless of cable length. Not what I wanted, as I was making a table lamp and wanted the switch closer to the lamp holder

Can the plug be removed so i can run the wire through a hole in the wall then connect it to the plug again ?

Mine did not have a moulded plug so this was entirely possible. Or if yours does, fit another plug. The switch does not come apart easily as there are no screws or visible fixings, so you will only be able to thread the flex as far as the switch. The switch on mine was exactly halfway up the flex.

Pat testing is not a requirement if new products and is not legally required at all it's generally just a insurance issue. It is considered safe to have a new product in use for the year or so before it's picked up by your companies normal portable appliance testing visit. Just make sure the cable has no exposed wires or and the plug and the bulb holder are not cracked or damaged and it will be safe. Also have a look at the government guidelines document on portable appliance testing it's easily findable through Google.
