They Are Back!
Being from Miami, I had the privilege of seeing this band from its roots. The first time I saw them, I was in a rock club on Miami Beach at a show with all rock bands. Then the MC came up and introduced The Best Country Band in S. Florida. I thought he was making a joke. Then they started playing. The entire club was just blown away. And I am the furthest thing from a country music fan, but Raul Malo and the boys just killed it. Fast forward a couple years, I get invited to their signing party with MCA Records, also on the Beach. They played six straight hours. Who knows that many songs? I think they were just making stuff up at the end. Then, a friend of mine was throwing a huge 4th July party in Montana, and had trouble booking an act. I told them about the Mavericks, they booked them and by the party they were the #1 band in the country. I looked like a hero.So why do I tell you all this? Because I think the band kinda lost its way for a while, trying to get another #1 record by anticipating the audiences wishes. Though the records were good, they just seemed to lack some soul. Now, with no pressure to follow up a huge hit, The Mavericks have again put out something from their heart. It has that unquantifiable feeling of love for the music over need for success.I am proud of the hometown boys, and glad they are back to their roots.

Just as good as any of their other great albums!
Awesome album I am so glad the Mavericks are back (Well this is the second album since the comeback.) I just went to their concert in Houston last week they were incredible, it was the best concert I've ever been to. You could zero out each instrument that was being played it was amazing this was part of the mono tour so they covered like every song on this album except the only song I didn't care too much for called fascinate me (they also sang a lot from in time as well as many of their all time classics like all you ever do is bring me down.) Anyway back to the album fascinate me is the only one I skip, everything else is amazing. My favorites are all night long, summertime, what am I supposed to do, let rain on me, out the door and the nitty gritty cover. This album has a totally different sound from the last album in time which also an awesome album. This one is more of a country/ rock/ swing and less of a latin style but still a little (In time had a lot of that style, but I like all of their styles of albums.) I didn't think that the sound quality was bad as some reviews stated you could tell they were going for a kinda (kinda not much at all) rougher sound but that's just a style choice it doesnt sound that rough! And it was recorded in mono but yeah it sounds just fine. It's a shame that the radio stations these days do not play good music like this on the radio, but it is great to know that there are still incredible country music artists out there like the mavericks and Dwight Yoakam. Oh a funny side note they played fascinate me in the back ground at the concert after they performed the last song, it was like concerts over now here's a bad song please leave ha ha ha! Any way mono is another great album from the mavericks I can't wait to see them again in concert! These cds that also have the mp3 version are so awesome it's like you get the best of both worlds I get the cd and it's on my kindle on the cloud or if I choose to download it. I'm so glad Amazon adds that to purchasing many cds from Amazon direct, it is very cool.

fun, and soul satisfying
A must add to your music collection. The Mavericks have outdone themselves with their release of Mono. The songs are eclectic, fun, and soul satisfying. There is a variety of genres ranging from country to Latin on this CD. The Mavericks display fantastic musical talents with both instruments and vocals, giving their fans a gift of pure musical genius.

The Mavericks never disappoint
The Mavericks are an awesome and totally underrated band that deserve far more credit and notoriety than what they get. Every album seems to get more diverse than the next, and they are one of the few bands that sound just as good as (if not better) live than on record. Personally, I thought their last album would be hard to top since it was such a strong comeback album after their 10 year hiatus. This album definitely stands on it's own and seems to try some even more diverse songs, though it manages to nicely stay in the same latin\mild country\old Elvis\classic rock genres. Raul Malo really pushes his vocal range on a couple of the songs, so it will be interesting to see him perform these live when I see them a couple months from now. All in all, I thought it was great and I already look forward to the next one.

that probably not good enough. The band does not disappoint with this ...
It is The Mavericks. What else is there to say??? OK, that probably not good enough. The band does not disappoint with this album. Er...CD. showing my age. The vocals are wonderful, Raul's voice is one of the best around. I won't go into details about the individual songs, but suffice it to say that The Mavericks have put together a collection that is classic Mavericks. There is a mix of songs, upbeat and slow, and the instrumentation is fantastic as usual. I'll end with this...if you love the sound you hear on the CD's and haven't seen the band live, you are missing out. Get on their website and sign up to be notified when they come to a town near you. They put on a show that and connect with the audience in a way that few bands do. I went way to long without knowing about the band, but since I learned of them I never miss them when they come to the DFW area.

... of the pretentious reviews I read but I'm so happy I took a chance and ignored what was written
I almost didn't buy this CD because of the pretentious reviews I read but I'm so happy I took a chance and ignored what was written ! I've heard about the Mavericks but never purchased their music. The Mono CD is wonderful! Sound is great... Almost like hearing them in person and what a feel good CD with an amazing array of music. Wonderful harmony and talented written songs. One of those CD's that you play over and over. LOVE IT!!

Woo-Hoo!!! The Mavericks are Back!
The Mavericks are back! So excited to have another solid Mavericks CD in my collection! Their CD, In Time, is one of my top twenty CDs that I listen to all the time. This is very much in that spirit, but with reflects a maturity that only a musician gains from time. The music is a mix of latin and rock that is pure Mavericks's signature style. Thanks Raul and gang for getting back together!
