I’ve watched the movie so many times. It’s one of my favorite movies. It was really cool to see how it was in the book and it was nice to have some scenes that weren’t in the movie

Amazing book - captivating
I LOVE this book! So captivating I could hardly put it down. And when I wasn’t reading it, I kept thinking about it. You really fall in love with the character, flaws and all. Also, I saw the movie before I read the book and still loved every bit of it! You get into it more of course with the book and it’s an intimate view of this high school graduate struggling with becoming a young adult and dealing with mom/stepdad issues, an alcoholic father, troubles with boys/men and friend drama as well. Oh, and drinking and drugs. So good! 11/10!

One of Those Books that Changes You
My peers that have either read this book and/or seen its film, Ask Me Anything (2014), often say that the end of the story frustrates them because [SPOILER, SORT OF] it ends on a cliff hanger. But the ending is my favorite part of this book. [SPOILER, DEFINITELY] Katie has created this online personality for herself, and the book is a series of her blog posts about her semi-eccentric life. However, the reader later finds out that she may or may not have embellished her life online. People get so obsessed with the tiny details of Katie's story, wondering what she embellished and what happened to her after she disappears. But that's not what I got out of this book. This book helped me to realize that you can be whatever you want in this life, and you can have as many breakdowns as needed, but one day you can just pack it all up and disappear and the character you created for yourself doesn't need to exist anymore. Even though Katie's life might have seemed crazy, she was just another messed up kid like the rest of us who wanted an escape from it all, one way or another. I think it's important for teenagers to learn this lesson because everything at this age seems like the end of the world. The things that Katie went though are things a surprising number of teenagers also experience. But these things don't have to be the end of the world. Maybe I'm reading too much into this book, but it has been interesting to try and figure out why the author left it on a cliffhanger. Usually, I am allergic to cliffhangers; I can't even watch a show on Netflix unless I know it had a conclusive ending. But there is beauty in Katie's mystery.[end spoilers]To anyone considering buying this book... buy it, read it, watch the movie (which is currently streaming on Netflix), reread it/rewatch it until you get some meaning out of it. There is more to it than meets the eye. Even if I have totally misinterpreted the author's intentions behind this book, thank you Allison Burnett for writing it. It has made me think in new ways and has thoroughly entertained me.

Couldn't put it down - MUST Read... but...
I'm not going to describe to much of the book itself because others have done that far better than I could. I saw the movie trailer with Brit Robertson - wanted to see the movie - but always like to read the book first. So I went directly to my Kindle and purchased it based solely on the trailer. I was immediately fascinated and drawn-in by this story written as the diary of a young girl.... and from the movie trailer, I had the impression that it was a fictionalized autobiography from the author's own childhood. I read about a third of the book and enjoyed it so much... the dry humor... writing style, etc that when I was on Amazon looking for another product, I searched books to find out what else the author had written. Imagine my surprise when I discovered the author is a MAN... first male Allison I've known ha!ha! I totally had to readjust my mind to the character of Katie. After a little time and a few deep breaths, I picked up the book again and literally read it straight through. Katie is so relatable as a young teen struggling with her identity and her future. The book is very well written - excellent author!!(Warning...very minor spoiler)The one other thing I will address in this review is the ending... Katie does give us an indication several times, but when it comes, it's like a full on body blow - it's so unexpected that it hits hard. This is one of the elements that makes a book stand out. There are a few reviews that complain about feeling "ripped off" by the surprise ending. Admittedly it was unexpected, but for me, I don't think I'd enjoy reading as much as I do if every situation were predictable! I reiterate... MUST READ!!

I actually enjoyed the movie better
I may be in the minority of reviewers who actually saw the movie first and then read the book. I really liked the movie and thought that the cast was excellent (and in particular Britt Robertson). I liked the concept of writing the whole book in blog format, but became disenchanted once the political elements entered the picture. I get that the book was written at a time when Obamamania swept the nation. A couple of mentions of candidate Obama as a subtle backdrop would have been plenty, but as the book progressed, the admiration seemed relentless. It makes the book quite dated at this point. Also, as a side note I found reading all the sexual details of the teenage female character a bit creepy once I learned the author was male.

Surprising read
I finished this book over a week ago and still can't make my mind up.On the one hand it's written in a way that makes you ask some really big questions. In another - I hated the ending! But hats off to the author for fooling you into thinking you were reading something trivial about the angst of a teenage girl. There's a lot of depth to this book and well worth the read, although it will leave you with more questions than answers!

An unsatisfying conclusion
Bought it to try to make sense of the Britt Robertson film but I still find the ending confusing and unexplained. What is it all about? Quite sordid in a way - educational rather than entertaining in my judgement!

A little gem.
Smart, intriguing and dramatic, with this book Allison Burnett gives us a peek in the life of an apparently normal soon-to-be-18 girl looking for her true self, which turns out to be more and more difficult, leaving us with an almost-creepy, jaw-dropping ending that perfectly reflects current topics - often unspoken in the nowadays society. Exquisite and funny, makes you bond with the main character and leaves you with no other chance than reading the sequel.

Amazing, unique.
The movie was probably my favourite movie, but the book is absolutely amazing. I enjoyed it so much I know I'll read it again and again.
