CendrexPFI 22x36 PFI - Fire Rated Insulated Access Door
T**S
Well made and pretty easy to install.
Bought this to allow access between 2nd floor bedroom to attic over garage (wife is going to love avoiding the pull down from the garage). Because the door between the garage and house is fire rated, I figured this needed to be also (better to spend the extra money than mess around and have to do it over later). Went with 22 inch wide by 36 inch tall door as this was the largest the area would support. I bought this for wall mount directly to studs with dry wall on the interior (one hour fire rating). I don't think this is intended for the average do it yourselfer (the instructions are very short and to the point), but I did not have any trouble (less than an hour installing the door and closer). I did need to shim one corner, but this was easy to do. The most time consuming part was framing the opening (I have done a panty door before, but this was my first time doing a door in a load bearing wall. I framed as I thought code would require for load bearing exterior wall (2x4 jack stud attached to 2x4 king stud with two 2x6's attached to each other as a header on top of the jack studs to support the one 2x4 I had to cut for the opening (the two 2x6's were probably more than I needed, could probably have done two 2x4's, but I was not sure and this is a case where more is better than having to rip it out later (I am thinking home inspector when its time to sell). If you don't know what I am talking about (jack stud, king stud, header), check out home improvement manual. I did buy premium 2x4's as I wanted them to be as strait as possible given I was mounting directly to the studs. All in all, start to finish, everything went smoothly and took less than 6 hours.
