Definite winner when tested against other options
I have been doing a lot of woodwork lately with a buddy, a couple of projects around the house. I had a couple of my fiance's earplugs she uses when her dad stays with us (he saws more logs in his sleep than I could do in a lifetime awake), but some of the tools were getting through the ear plugs so I decided to hunt for a solution. When I had shop classes we were always given earplugs in the shop so I sought the best noise-dampening earplugs I could find. I turned to Flents Quiet Time ear plugs (Amazon Item B07HHXGPW6). They were effective when inserted properly, but unfortunately they often worked their way out of proper insertion and were therefore far less effective. But they were $15 bucks for 70 pairs, so I figured I could keep them for my buddies when they work on stuff with me, but I knew these earplugs weren't the everyday option I was looking for. I had seen other options when searching, so I took to the web again. I pulled up other earplugs on Amazon, and the suggested links had earmuffs. I remember seeing them on children at concerts, so I clicked on a couple. (Good enough for developing ears, good enough for mine, right?) All the noise ratings were higher than industrial earplugs and the price was still in that $10-$20 range. I bought a couple of them to test by Pro For Sho (Amazon Item B017RZ45F6) and ClearArmor (Amazon Item B00NKSMPZW). The Pro For Sho is a good set. They're sleek-looking and they fold relatively compact when not in use. I think they muff noise better than the Flents earplugs even when the earplugs are properly inserted. However, I felt that they were tight. They aren't bad for a few minutes at a time, but I did feel the pressure with sustained use. My buddy tried them for a day and said he didn't have that problem, so maybe I just have sensitive temples? For the record, my cap size is S/M and his is M/L. The ClearArmor is a GREAT set. They aren't as low-profile as the Pro For Sho, but frankly no ear muff is going to be invisible; it's not about looking cool, it's about being safe, right? Plus they also fold on the same mechanism that the Pro For Sho does, so they also fit in storage easily. They muffed sound about the same as the Pro For Show, but I could almost forget they were on. The ear pad is soft and comfortable, the headband didn't feel too tight at all, and I could and did wear them all day in the shop. I was going to return the Pro For Sho in favor of the ClearArmor, but my buddy said he would take them. So in the end I guess they were both good buys, just not for me. The earplugs weren't a bad buy--they'll get used--but I won't buy them again. PS if you want all kinds of ear protection, pair the earplugs with the muffs. The internet says it adds something like +5 NRR to the one with the highest rating. I don't know numbers like that, but I did give it a try with the earplugs inserted poorly and the earmuffs on and it was super effective. If I had some comfortable earplugs that stayed in, it would be easy to see myself using both when working on the loudest-of-loud tools in the shop. Ultimately: Flents Quiet Time (Amazon Item B07HHXGPW6): 3 stars. Effective but iconsistent. Pro For Sho (Amazon Item B017RZ45F6): 4 stars. Effective but uncomfortable. ClearArmor (Amazon Item B00NKSMPZW): 5 stars. Effective and comfortable.

Highly Effective, Great Value
I originally purchased these noise-reduction earmuffs for studying in the library - the whispers and chatter of fellow patrons was highly distracting. In this capacity alone, the earmuffs were 100% effective in eliminating the low-level sound distractions I had been experiencing and therefore merit a five-star rating. They are comfortable and able to be worn for hours at a time without becoming uncomfortable. However, my favorite use for the earmuffs was entirely unexpected. I live in New York City and ride the subway an hour each way to and from school. The subway is loud, the performers which frequent the trains are loud, even listening to music the entire way with my Sennheiser CX300 II CX 300 II Precision Enhanced Bass Earbuds, which themselves reduce a fair amount of the ambient noise, the experience is less than ideal. The game-changing moment was when I decided to wear the ClearArmor earmuffs over my earbuds - the result was nothing short of extraordinary. I can actually LISTEN to my music now in the highly noise-polluted subways of New York City. I'm currently in the library writing this review in a secluded carrel, listening to music with the earmuffs on over them, and I feel like I'm the only person in the building. There is absolutely no ambient sound whatsoever. Save yourself the hundreds of dollars you would spend on noise-cancelling headphones, buy a pair of quality earbuds like those from Sennheiser and pair them with the ClearArmor 141001 earmuffs. You will not regret it. This is honestly perhaps the best purchase I've ever made on Amazon, it has had a tremendous impact on my daily commute and ability to study without distraction, which is critical as I am student in law school. Excellent product. Five-stars all the way.

One of the best purchases I've ever made.
I bought about a year or so ago. Since then they've held up fine and look good as new. Relevant details on why I was looking for ear protection: - I suffer from sensory integration problems, mainly with sound and touch. In a counterintuitive twist of fate, I am profoundly deaf and cannot hear higher-pitched sounds. Sounds I wanted to block out completely: - Conversational noise and voices. - The TV, which often at a volume that is atrocious. Also, the sound system with heavy bass my father uses for action films. (Note: I am on the other side of the house. I can still hear and feel it.) - Fireworks. The lawnmower/weedwhacker next to my window. A few years ago, my sensory problems became much worse. I was wearing earplugs almost all the time, which isn't ideal. I was desperate for a reprieve, so I looked at ear protection. After looking at quite a few types and researching the difference in levels of protection, etc., I chose the ClearArmor brand. Effectiveness: 5/5 They blocked out MOST conversational noise, save for the occasional bellowing and such. If I turn on a fan or some other white noise, that helps block out the rest. Noise from the TV was nonexistent. My father's sound system died before I received these, so I cannot speak for its effectiveness there. These are incredibly helpful during July. It won't block out the sound of fireworks completely, but it dulls the 'sharpness' of the noise. The same goes for the sound of yard equipment. Fit: 4.5/5 They fit me well enough, but I am petite and have a small head. I'm guessing they fit a little lower on me -- my head and jaw will hurt after a few hours, and depending on how they are positioned, jaw movement can affect the seal. It almost feels unfair to take off half a point here, because they really do work. Adding an additional head cushion on the headband would probably help the fit, but I haven't tried that yet. For sleep: I am a side/stomach sleeper, so I cannot wear these at night. Other points to consider: Obviously I can only judge these for a certain range of sound. YMMV in that sense. If you are someone with sensory issues, I would encourage you to give them a try because it truly has helped me. Unsure on the fit? Consider how well a decent, standard-sized set of headphones fit you (do they slide down or stretch too far?). Then consider how well they would work if those headphones were designed for a very tight fit. If you have trouble, these earmuffs may need slight modification at best; at worst, they may just not be a good fit for you. I absolutely recommend this brand in your continued search, however.

Great Value
I purchased two different brands with lots of good reviews here so i could figure out which one I like better and provide a review with some perspective. I'm keeping both, one set for shooting at the range and another set for yard work and using power tools at home. Both the Clear Armor and the Decibel Defense ear muffs work really good. I couldn't tell the difference between them when using my lawn mower. They both significantly reduced the sound level and I feel like my ears are safe using either. The Clear Armor ear muffs have very soft pads. Almost too soft, but they seem to work really well with glasses, keeping a tight fit. The finish on them isn't great. The headband has sharp plastic on the edges and it feels cheap. The bars that hold the muffs to the headband are not polished, which makes them a little bit rough to adjust, but not a big deal, they just done feel like a high quality part. I'm sure they will last, and as I said before, they will get the job done. The ear opening is big enough for my ears. I just needed to wiggle them around a bit. Overall, these things are a great deal for the money. The Decibel Defense ear muffs have harder pads. They work well with safy glasses. They feel like they will last a long time without getting compressed. The headband has basically the same cushions as the Clear Armor, except these have a stitched edge, making them feel much better in the hand; higher quality. The bars that hold the muffs to the headband are polished, making them very easy to adjust as they slide with very little friction. The ear holes are about the same size as the Clear Armor, and had the same fit for me, which is acceptable. Overall the Decibel Defense ear muffs feel a little more refined, but they are also a little more expensive. Good luck with your decision! But no matter what you do, make sure to choose something, because some protection is much better than no protection.

I fell asleep with them on didn't even know it!
I love them ! My only slight issue is I wanted them to extend down some more but that won't stop 5 stars. After all I do have a 7 3/4 hat size. They are very quiet and puts you in a trance of heavenly comfort.I don't have a issue with them being too tight, just very snug, and I was told that would be the case with another buyer here. They feel good and you can bet I'm gonna where them out . Couldn't hear my yappy dog our my son come home from school. You got a satisfied buyer but hopefully the headband gets a little tweak to extend down more for those XL big headed guys, so they can enjoy this Earmuff too. God bless and do try these out , as I'm sure you will love them for your Bible ( KJV/AV1611) studies. Great product! Update: I went to bed a little after 5:30 AM...Wednesday 1/20/16, and when I woke from very vivid dreams, I still had them on! I haven't taken them off , so that's three (3 hours) I feel a little crimping on my ear but not enough to take them off. My ears are not hot, amazingly! I can't hear a thing but the slight hum of my own head and the lowest cars sound like a hum too! It's like my ears are entombed in quietness. I don't want to take them off, and break the seal... They are not as tight anymore, likely from my body heat on headband but are still so snug they won't jar loose . I'm debating on getting another pair ASAP as soon as I buy the 3M Peltor Optime , whatever its called, and the 3M Peltor X Series muff...After that I'm done. I bought quite a few muffs. So anyway, I will up date and and on to how long I kept these on, and I think if I pay too much attention I'll end up taking them off, so I'll power through it , even if a challenge to myself...I have wore the super slim L0fs from Leight all night , gonna see if I can do better till the afternoon, so going back to bed now, deaf and loving it.. For now. PS don't get jealous, but i can sleep on my side, with no problems, also my pillows are somewhat new, lol. Update: 1/21/16...Again I fell right to sleep for almost 6 hours with these Earmuffs and didn't even move them from discomfort. If your sleepy already, and you put these on, your gonna be out before you know it. That's how well they block sound. Update 1/26/16 these Earmuffs are so comfortable, and they are more so when I bought a wrap a nap and it was great to shut out the noise and the lights. Gary gave me a discount code for another set, so I bought it without hesitation. Update 2/20/16 , I gave my second pair to an employee , and bought a third pair and am wearing them now breaking them in and as always put in the soft Thinsulate from the 3M fur Earmuffs for added comfort. They are great. If you have trouble , just for yourself through it if you know they fit, and eventually you will get used to them while they break in. And , I found you definitely sleep in them , just use one pillow under your head or ear in this case laying on your side... And wrap your arms around another pillow ever so slightly putting it under your chin. Or and, your hand slightly under the ear muff. Very cozy and make you feel secure knowing the muffs are blocking the barking and the loud trucks that go up and down your road. God bless! Till the forth pair! They are trying to get a Hygiene kit made up. Update 2/22/16 , I Got my forth pair on the way at a huge discount, because one pair was ( I thought defective, but its not). Update 8/17/16, going for a 5th pair.

Extremely Pleased With This Product
Hi, all. I received my ClearArmor Safety Ear Muffs 34 dB NRR last night, 28-January-2016; so, today, 29-January-2016, from 1100-1200 Hours PST, I went to the gun range to try them out; and, I am extremely pleased with its performance and comfort. I am not a sound engineer, audiologist, nor medical physician; so, my review is not going to be about all the technical stuff regarding sound and the physiological events and functions of the ear; rather, my review is gonna be about my experiences at the gun range while using this product. FACTS: - Gun Range: In the presence of shooters discharging cartridges: .45 caliber, .9mm, 38 special, and 40 caliber. - Distance: I was within 4 feet of each shooter - Duration: 1 hour - Indoor Gun Range - ~2 minutes no ear plugs -- just the ClearArmor Safety Ear Muffs 34 dB NRR - ~58 minutes ClearArmor Safety Ear Muffs 34 dB NRR with 32 dB NRR ear plugs During my first two minutes or so at the gun range, I wore the ClearArmor Safety Ear Muffs 34 dB NRR without ear plugs; and, the sharp sounds of the exploding cartridges were gone. I heard the cartridges going off, but they sounded muffled at a lower volume -- I didn't feel the inside of my ears spike up -- the exploding cartridges from the guns sounded dull and at a low volume. With my other ear muffs, I have to double up by wearing my 32 dB NRR ear plugs -- not with ClearArmor Safety Ear Muffs 34 dB NRR -- they do the job without having me to wear ear plugs. After around two minutes, I exited the range; and, I removed my ClearArmor Safety Ear Muffs 34 dB NRR. My ears felt normal, and I didn't feel any discomfort; so, for me, the ClearArmor Safety Ear Muffs 34 dB NRR definitely did its job of protecting my ears from the exploding cartridges at and within four feet of standing next to the shooters. Regardless of the ear muffs I use, I always wear ear plugs with my ear muffs whenever I go to the gun range. So, I inserted my 32 dB NRR ear plugs into each ear, and I put on my ClearArmor Safety Ear Muffs 34 dB NRR, and I went back out to the range and met with the shooters. I stood within 4 feet of them, as they discharged their guns. With the ear plugs in and the ClearArmor Safety Ear Muffs 34 dB NRR on, the cartridge explosions sounded like the level of a normal conversation I would have at a quiet dinner restaurant, and the explosions didn't sound like I was standing within 4 feet of the shooters -- the exploding cartridges felt like I was at a greater distance from the shooters even though I was at or within 4 feet of them. The sharpness of the exploding cartridges were all muffled out; and, I felt like my ears were relaxed. I am very pleased with my ClearArmor Safety Ear Muffs 34 dB NRR; for me, it is truly a great product that performs well in protecting my ears from the explosion of cartridges being discharged at the gun range. /s/ Alfonso Faustino

Love them! Ordering two more pairs!
I've taken my daughter (16) and son (13) dove and turkey hunting with me since they were 5 and 3-1/2 years-old respectively. As they've gotten older we too began to do more shooting at outdoor ranges. Getting them set up with hearing protection for hunting and at the outdoor ranges using effective shooting ear plugs was no problem. Just recently though we decided to try out the very convenient local indoor range. 12+ years ago I had tried this indoor range once and remember clearly having to "double-up" with both ear plugs and my Silencio Shooting ear muffs before I felt even somewhat comfortable (the magnum rounds in the next lanes were very loud to say the least). Well, last week I took my son with me to "scout" this indoor range again (it had long changed hands once or twice since my earlier visit), to get re-aquainted with it some. We borrowed some "loaners" (shooting ear muffs) from the shop there. These muffs looked like they were better than my Silencios, yet we still felt like we had to "double up" with ear plugs to deal with some of the blasts that were coming from the other shooting lanes. So before returning to this indoor range with my daughter and son, I got online to see if I could find some better hearing protection options. After looking at many offerings, I found two options that interested me: 1) the ClearArmor 141001 Shooting Ear Muffs (passive), and 2) the Howard Leight Impact Pro (electronic). Both had a high number of reviews, a high number of 4-5 star reviews, and high number of in-depth and helpful reviews. Many of the Impact Pro reviews sounded like these would be totally awesome, lots of protection, and the ability to converse clearly. Sounded too good to be true, I just had to give them a try. However, I also really was attracted by the ClearArmor's high level of protection. And these too had many great reviews. I felt they'd be a great baseline for me to evaluate the electronic muffs, and they were much less cost. I just had to give them a try too. I ordered both and got them today. The three of us could not wait to head to the indoor range and give them both a try (and of course try out a few firearms we'd never shot before, we had a BLAST). The ClearArmor shooting ear muffs were everything I was hoping for. Solid comfort, and for the first time in this indoor range we all felt no need to "double-up" with ear plugs and muffs. Yes, there were still some very noticiable differences between the "normal" rounds going off and the "magnum" rounds in the near by shooting lanes. Again, though the ClearArmor shooting ear muffs we felt were sufficient and we were very comfortable using them alone. As for the Impact Pro, I can only share my experience, and acknowledge that many others seemed to have very acceptable (or good, or great) experiences using them. However, at this particular indoor range (and I have no other experiences with other indoor ranges), they didn't work out for us. We didn't find using the electronic feature effective. When the volume was at a low setting, we could not hear verly well when someone was talking to us (to be clear, when we were trying to talk to each other). When we raised up the volume so we could hear each other, the microphones also picked up the ventilation systems (blowers) and amplifed it to a very loud (annoying) hiss. This was too distracting so we had to lower the volume, which again made it hard to really hear anyone talking. Essentially, we had to use them in a passive mode. Perhaps these electronic muffs would work in another indoor range setting. That said, I don't plan to keep the electronic muffs (for use at our nearby indoor range), and will be ordering two more of the ClearArmor muffs as soon as I complete this review.

Five Stars
geart product :) super comfy I don't know why people complain about it being too tight or not doing the job, unless they are aliens and have egg shaped heads it fits fine i wore it for 4-6 hours and didn't even notice it :), and this is on top of the fact that I wear glasses and I have a larger than average head size, and for sound isolation its wonderful, obviously it doesn't block everything but pretty much everything and lowers the loud annoying noise to that of humming bird wings :) which is nice :) and in most cases I hear nothing or hardly anything at all I tried them under several conditions, at home I don't hear anything from the street at all, the only thing I hear is my tinitus sadly :( , outside what ever sounds there are are extremely muffled and very very low and I hear the vibration of my feet touching the ground louder than most other sounds, but that vibration is not a sound, its not hearing the foot steps like a sound traveling into your ear, its having the energy pass through your body kind of like hearing crunchy food, somehow that vibration travels through your body bones and makes it into the ear canal that way, and well if you can hear that over everything else, then the head phones are fantastic, tried them at school, works lovely, tested them with loud speakers and it works great, lowers the loud music very well and I added noise isolation ear plugs and together they are a dynamic duo :) of -60 DB I heaven't used them for construction work like some reviewers claim and claim it is not satisfactory, how ever I did pass by a construction crew who were tearing up the pavement with jack hammers and hardly noticed it, in fact I kind of panicked a bit because I wasn't sure how safe it was to come close to them since I could not hear them and I took off the headphones to compare and damn it was pretty loud without them, then on the train I saw a train worker with some massive bulky iso headphones that don't fold, and I was temped to let him know about these but he looked to be in a hurry IN SUM, THEY'RE GREAT :) GET 2 JUST IN CASE

Great fit
Good comfortable fit on a small head. Slightly confusing delivery times, but received in good order. I would not hesitate to recommend.

Comfortable and effective.
Bought these because of the neighbour from hell playing an acoustic piano in the unit directly above me. They stop all but the loudest notes.

Muy útil para el estudio
Me gustó mucho el producto, y me es bastante útil para el estudio ya que en la mayoría de los casos aísla bastante bien del ruido del entorno, por lo cual me permite mantener la concentración.

Not as robust as I thought for the money...
Cheap plastic side clip let go after 3 months, now they are useless. No returns exchange after 30 days. I wish I had bought a less expensive set at the hardware store with a guarantee.
