Shop Essential Recollection. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Essential - Fantastic collection of Jean Michel Jarre's best work spanning a forty year career. Three parts from the opus 'Oxygene' are here as well as tracks from his other albums. A pioneer of electronic music paving the way for New Romantic/rock bands like Depeche Mode as well as dance acts such as Orbital. Jarre and Kraftwerk inspired many great artists that have followed since and although there have been a handful of compilations of his best known work over the years this is the most definitive and concise with great mastering on all fronts. A great introduction to his music at a bargain price. Review: Not really Essential, but I cannot say No - There is nothing new is this collection, but I didn't expect there to be. What I would have liked is a more even spread of tracks that cover his output, but once again we get a bias towards the early stuff (Oxygene, Equinoxe, Magnetic Fields), there is nothing from Revolutions or Waiting for Cousteau, Oxygene 7-13 is notable by it's absence, and what about Teo and Tea, Sessions 2000, Geometry of Love...it really is an odd thing to release...surely an Essential collection (recollection) should cover a wider range, and I am aware it's only a single CD so there is limited space, but with his recent remasters, and a new album on the way, this was an ideal opportunity to do something s bit special...still, I like the cover and it's another disc of fine music for the collection.

I HAVE BEEN A JARRE FAN FOR MANY YEARS AND THIS NEW COMPILATION IS ANOTHER GREAT EDITION FOR MY COLLECTION. I WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO ANY SOLID JARRE FAN AS THIS ONE HAS BEEN RE MASTERED SO THE SOUND QUALITY IS MORE THAN OK.

AN INTERESTING ANTHOLOGY
I found this album enjoyable, quite relaxing, as I enjoy electronically generated music almost as much as traditional classics.

Nothing new here for people who might be looking for such, but this is a good mix collection for people who are just getting into his music. Works better than 2011's Essentials and Rarities Disc 1 (although don't get me wrong, the Disc has a interesting take). The cuts are not abrupt and appear necessary. The mastering is great. Track selection is good. Probably could have used later tracks such as Oxygene 13 and Space of Freedom to round out, or even Chronologie 6, but that's fine. Might have made this too long anyways... it's a good length. Bells over Tout est blu or C'est la Vie is understandable as it fits better with the tracks. For those who want a more complete catalogue, go with Jarre's 2008's Greatest Hits (if it wasn't for the modern 2004 version of 1st track, I think it would have been perfect). For those looking for earlier work compilations, look for Musik Aus Zeit Und Raum and The Essential (think there are about three versions now, just be sure to distinguish the 1984/1985 versions from the 2004 version). The Images compilation from 1991/2007 is another favorite, as we get some tracks from Waiting for Custeau, Revolutions, and Zoolook. If you want a more modern take, go with Aero. There is also a classical music take, called the Symphonic Jean Michel Jarre. Surprisingly good. With that said, this one is a good start for newcomers.
