will it work if bluetooth module is broken? my ps4 controller doesn't connect via USB and was wondering if this wired option would work?

It should, the controller doesn't have any bluetooth capabilities and would be transferring data via usb to your console. Used it both on ps4 and pc, and my pc didn't have a bluetooth component, so its definitely capable of transferring data without it. I believe that it was only older ps4 controllers that were incapable of transferring via usb, shouldnt ne the case here.

Does it pair to the ps4 automatically or do you have to pair it to the ps4 manually?

If I remember correctly it works as soon as its connected via USB directly to the PS4
