Huge hits such as Shangri-Las Leader of the Pack ; Chiffons One Fine Day ; and Dixie Cups Chapel of Love, and more.

You will be singing along with them.
Excellent compilation of some of the better-known songs by girl groups from the early 1960s. Worthwhile for anyone who needs tuneful driving tunes, and a small view into the technical sophistication and just sheer fun of back in the day US rock and roll.

Better than you can imagine
A recent purchase of The Dimension Dolls , inspired my curiosity of 60 girl bands, and finding albums of similar quality. While out driving with a friend I played this album and she wanted to get it, and it's been a regular on my car stereo ever since I bought. When you get this album you get a glimpse into that most puzzling of phenomenon the teenage mind, and the rough and tumble of loves great adventure. Some songs will become new favorites. Now, Chapel of Love has become one of my favorite songs ever, with beautiful close harmonies, bright vocals and church bell effects. One of those songs that just sweeps you along. You can experience a sense of fun, and high energy and excitement that pervades these songs as contagious, particularly the classic Leader of the Pack vroom vroom, a Romeo Juliet styled love song complete with revving motor cycle, and skidding tires offering a window into that exciting time, and that exciting world. The more you listen to these songs, the more your apprecation grows, and what you appreciate appreciates. There is something you may not realise but you may not know you don't realise it. Even the songs that you don't already know on this album are very good. If you're like me, those songs would include Party Lights by Claudine Clark, and Give him a great big kiss, by the Shangri Las. All these songs have great stories, some conflicts, bright vocals, and beautiful close harmonies. You may recall that George Harrison got sued for plagiarism for the similarities between his hit song My Sweet Lord, and the Ronnie Mack song He's so Fine, a number one hit for The Chiffons. An interesting twist is that even though Harrison lost that suit he eventually purchased the rights to this song. One Fine Day is a Goffin King classic, as is Will you Still Love me Tomorrow, a number one hit. If you're like me the more listen to these songs the more you will discover new things to appreciate about them. I have also purchased The Best of the Girl Groups, Vol. 2 , which I also highly recommend as being of a similar standard. If you are torn between buying one or both, and which one, get volume one first. Rhino puts out excellent collections.Volume one is a very strong album which I highly recommend, and I think you'll love it.I hope you found this review helpful.

Fab Girl Groups
Female groups played a major role in the sixties music scene (as well they should.) The Best of the Girl Groups, Vol. 1 highlights some of the most popular female groups and hits. There are cuts from pop groups such as the Shangri-Las, the Chiffons, the Dixie Cups and the Shirelles. It's a decent selection considering that all these mega groups had to be shoehorned into a single CD.The CD takes some liberty in including individual female singers such as Claudine Clark, Skeeter Davis and Cher. Although not technically "girl groups", the cuts from these solo artists do nothing to detract from the CD.The Best of the Girl Groups, Vol. 1 will offer you a toe tapping, memory jogging trip into some of the best music of the era.

Exactly as I remembered them!!
Rhino does a great job furnishing the original songs. It was a little pricey BUT well worth it.

I have to be careful I don't rock so hard I crash the car.
If you loved the Girl Groups of the 60s, buy this album. Hit after Hit. Only a couple of songs that I couldn't sing along with, but they were great, too. Along with Vol. 2 you have an amazing collection of this incredible music. If you are too young to remember, but you Love Rock & Roll try this out. You cannot be disappointed. I am so glad I stumbled upon these to add to my collection.

Vol 1 Best of Girl Groups
Already have the good songs, others are overplayed or not worth having at all.

Shoop Shoop
The guy groups were smooth, but the girls were glamorous! There are a couple of surprises here, but they are the good kind. These groups represent the very best of the best, and what was supposed to be a "fad", turned into a musical genre that has lasted for decades.

The best singers and songs even today
the girl groups were the best at the time if you love pop/rock like I do. I play them loud in my car and can't help but sing to them, very upbeat. A male friend of mine introduced me to this CD while driving around in his car and I was hooked.
